Convertible Motor Mod

Anyone mod'ed their convertible motor setup to raise and lower the top faster? Our stock setup is rediculously slow, not even enough time at a stoplight half the time. If so, what did you modify? Thanks!

Lon

You're absolutely right. I always thought that my top went up and down awfully slow. I rented a newer Mustang convertible last year and noticed that the top went up and down alot alot faster than my 96 vert. Maybe just swapping in a newer motor would work.

Yes, I believe it is in the motor as well. A friend has a '98 Cobra vert and mine top goes up about twice as quick as his does. So that is only a one year difference. The only thing I could think of would be that the motors might be different.

I haven't looked at the setup. Do you think it's belt and pulley driven? Maybe then we could just change the pulley and make the motor work a little harder.

Mine is awfully slow aswell. Couldn't raise it all the way at a stop light, had to lower it back down. Hopefully someone will find the answer.

I remember reading somewhere that there is a new motor in the 99+ 'verts, accounting for the faster operation. Later.

Maybe we all should ask Randy from Universal Ford if this is true and and get a GP on this.

Juiced is right- the 99+ is hydrolic the older ones are eletric. Ford thought the same thing you all do. So they changed it in 99. they have rumored from a ford rep they will in new body as well again

Both pre-99 and post-99 are electro-hydraulic. The 99 up is faster due to differences in the pump, lines and hydraulic cylinders.
