The first small list of affordable but effective mods are:
-K&N filter
-Remove your silencer (that rubber thing that goes in the fender)when you replace your filter
-Get a 3.73 gear as your differential

If you wish to stick with simple inexpensive mods and nothing else be sure to get a chip like Diablo or even Hypertech. This will help greatly if you have an auto.

Cheers

If you don't already have an aftermarket shifter, I suggest that. Makes a ton of difference. You will not regret it.

2001 Mineral Grey GT, Tri-Ax, Magnaflow Cat-Back, Bullitt Suspension, Steeda LCA's, more to come since it is now paid off....

How much do you want to spend?

S/C is the best mod. If too much money then:
3.73 or 4.10 gears
aluminium D/S
If auto then stall convertor and chip to change shift points. If manual, chip not worth it unless you want to correct speedo with it.
If you get an after market shifter be sure to test drive a car with one in it. A few people are unhappy with the way they feel.

Now after saying that: Do you want hp gains, appearence mods, or change the exhausts sound? Search the archives there have been plenty of questions on all the above.

When you all change the gears does the car run harder on the highway? I just traded my F-150 4.2l 5 speed for this 2002 GT and i like how when im on the highway running 70-80 the rpm's are way low. In my truck it ran alot harder and was loud. That rearend swap sounds good and all but how hard does it run the car at like 80 mph? When it gets nicer out i make hour and 15 min trips to the lake everyweekend. Just wonder couse that sound like a good mod after i get my new exhaust but not if it makes the stang to low geared.

Very first mod to any 5sp car should be a shifter. After that, I'd say gears and drag radials.

2012 Silver GT, M6, Brembos, 3.73s, Lethal OR-H, K&N, tuned

Lightbulb

I waited about 9 months after I bought my mustang to put in the steeda tri ax shifter, but now wish I could have installed it right on day one!

DO get the shifter ASAP! (a great mod IMHO)

Then, proceed to do the rest..... gears, new intermediate pipe, K&N air filter, maybe a CAI, suspension, etc, etc... goodluck with it

Gears. 4:10s if you plan to stay NA or 3:73s if you plan to SC.

(NA=Naturally Aspirated)
(SC=Supercharged)

I can give you the order I did on my '02 GT.
1. Immediately, tri-ax shifter. It can save you from bending the forks in the tranny.
2. Subframe connectors and Eibach pro-kit springs and shock tower brace. (Always wanted to know how a Mustang would fare if never allowed to twist)
3. Longtube headers, h-pipe with cats, and cat-back exhaust.
4. 4.10 gears (runs about 2700 rpms at 80 on the highway)
*** At this point, had good-running car with no hassles.
5. C&L meter and 70mm throttle body. (Have SES light since installing meter - haven't figured out why yet, so I haven't put the throttle body on yet. No dtc code stored, no driveability issues other than the poor idle its had since new.)

dehoass,
I am curious to why you are switching out your 4.10's for 3.73's?
