Thumbs up Possible GP for A-Pillar gauge pods (full length replacement)! "approved"

"GP approved by the snakecharmer himself"

I am working with LoTek Engineering http://gaugepods.com to put together a group purchase of A-pillar gauge pods.

These would be complete replacement pillars not some cheap partial pods. They will also come in gray, med. parchment, and black. They have recessed screw holes with covers (see pic). Depending on how much interest there is, they can build either double or triple gauge pods for coupes or convertibles. I personally am looking for a 99+ vert. triple gauge pod.

Nobody else has these pods for verts or in multiple colors. These guys "say" they are the originator of the A-pillar gauge holder .. and from the quality I see, I believe they know what they are doing ..

For the GP they will sell the doubles for 39.99 and triples for $44.99 in YOUR COLOR including SHIPPING! It will take 6-8 weeks to manufacture/ship once all is set. They need 20 prepaid orders to start the process.

Here are some pics (beefcakes Lightning):

Notice the full length replacement and recessed screws (covered).

Double gauge pod from LoTek's site (Lightning again):

TO "gauge" interest, please send email to [email protected] with preference: Year, Model, Body (coupe/vert), Color (gray, med. parch, black), Number (Double, Triple). If we get 20 people interested, then I will email all interested parties and ask them to prepay through LoTek.

I will leave this open until Friday, December 28th unless we get 20 people interested before then ..

Here is Mine:
99, Cobra, vert, med. parchment, triple

disclaimer: I have no interest in LoTek other than wanting to get a nice gauge pod!

Let me know if you want more specifics ...

2003 Cobra vert, 682rwhp, 690tq @ 20psi, Boss 5.0, ARP studded, Custom Diamonds ~9.1:1, Livernois Stage 2 Ported heads, FGT cams, Whipple 2.3, Kooks headers/X-pipe, Fore triple hat, Dual FGT pumps. Tuned by HBH

Intrested if....

They will have the grey to match the Mustang interior (Charcoal).
It's not close enough to black and far from the grey in the lightnings.

You have mail.

they don't even have a mustang sectiono on their webpage. what's up with that? I would be interested in a 3gauge pod, BUT only if they can match it to the dark charcoal interior. **** a bunch of that black ****! this is for a 2001 cobra coupe.

LTrain,

Thats right they don't have a mustang section YET. That is the purpose of this post, to get them to fabricate a new pillar pod for mustangs .. I am looking for a vert. pod in particular but there have been more requests for coupe pods so far ..

I haven't heard back on the colors yet but they do currently offer three colors.

You might say that there already are pillar pods for mustangs out there but what LoTek offers is a complete replacement pillar. No one (that I have seen ) has a replacement pillar, they all screw on over the existing pillar and don't really look factory.

Put you on the list??

Thanks,

RoadRash

94+ Coupes: 6
99+ Verts: 10

We are looking good .. keep em coming. I will give everyone an email update after I hear back from LoTek.

I believe Autometer also makes a full pillar pod, just not for the 'verts.

Now we will just have to see whos has a better fit and finish.

MC,

email me about this (your profile won't let me email you).

LoTek has to fabricate this pillar pod from my pillar. They said the process will take 6 - 8 weeks till they are ready to ship, so there is time.

ok guys ... let me give you an update.

LoTek has my pillar. They are mocking up a gauge pod with it and when that is approved (proper gauge placement, etc..), they will begin manufacturing.

We should be able to do two runs, one of 94+ triples and one of 94+ doubles (the coupes can be cut from the vert pillars). I am still waiting to hear back on all the colors they offer for this. I know they have med. parchment, lt. gray, and black.

I would like to get a gp for gauges going since we have about 50 people interested in pillar pods (with 2 or 3 gauges per pod needed) .. I am contacting Autometer .. I will let everyone know what happens (and get Corral approval before offering <g>) ..

Thanks,

RoadRash

Arrow It is not too late!

It is not too late! ..

Please email me at [email protected] ..

It is hard to track people via corral usernames. so email me to make sure you are on the list. I'm sending an email out to about 4 or 5 new people I have just added. If you don't get an email from me this morning, then you are not on my list (just you new people).

You should see the spreadsheet I have put together .. Coupes, verts, different years, double, triples, names, email addys, etc .. hehe.

We have 53 people interested .. and climbing every time this post gets refreshed!

Thanks,

Road Rash,
Does your car have the MACH 460? I just want to be sure the A-pillar they mock up from your car will clear the MACH 460 speaker. Also, when you say "the coupes can be cut from the vert pillars" do you mean they will have a completely seperate pillar, or will we have to cut (modify) the vert one ourselves to make it fit.

Thanks

Exclamation

To answer your questions, yes, I have Mach 460 and it will fit. Yes, it looks like the coupe will have to be cut down by the consumer. You just lay the new over the old and scribe a line and cut the top off (per LoTek).

Ok .. here is the good, the bad, and the ugly .. (I am emailing everyone this info also).

I just got off the phone with Dennis at LoTek. The bad news is , the pillars pods have to be "covers" not "replacements". This is because on the 2000+ cars the pillar plastic is know as a safety device and Federal law prohibits replacement of a safety device. You mid-year 2000+ guys take a look, the underside of the pillar will have baffles. I know my 99 does not. Anyway, Dennis says all of theirs now have to be covers (except on some older cars). So what does this mean for you coupe drivers? Well, Autometer already sells a full length pillar cover for coupes (94-2000). The only difference in LoTeks will be a cheaper price and they will paint to match your interior. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I have spent many hours setting this up. I understand if some want to pull out .. just let me know. But for you convertible owners, like me, this is the only answer ..

More bad .. These will take about 8 weeks to make. Dennis says the holdup is with the plastic "former". LoTek has to wait in line for them ..

The good news is .. They will match whatever colors we want. We just need to supply the Ford interior color code. Let me know if you have this info. I will probably call the dealer and get these for charcoal, med. dk. parchment, and gray. Black is a done deal.

They are mocking up a triple gauge pillar pod using my pillar right now and I should have it early next week. I will take pics and post them.

Thanks ..

Just Rash (ouch) ..

Here is an excerpt from the first post (I know this one has grown long ...)

For the GP they will sell the doubles for 39.99 and triples for $44.99 in YOUR COLOR including SHIPPING! It will take 6-8 weeks to manufacture/ship once all is set. They need 20 prepaid orders to start the process.

Also, because of this mid-year 2000 change (Ford made) in the pillar (it is more sharply rounded) and the fact that this is now a cover, it will not work for 2001+ cars .. just like Autometers. If there is enough interest with the 2001+ guys (you need 20 and currently we have 13) they can take this on as a seperate GP. Someone else will have to carry that torch .. I have spent way too much time and a little money on this for what it is
worth!

******** UPDATE ********* UPDATE *******
Since the 2001+ need to be covers and a seperate project, I will ask if the 94-2000 can be replacements .. Thanks to Wizard for the idea! I will contact LoTek tomorrow and see what they say.

I just spoke with LoTek about 94-2000 pillar REPLACEMENTS and Dennis said that is NO PROBLEM.

We are moving forward with pillar pod full length replacements for convertibles and coupes from 1994-2000 (mid-year). For the mid-2000+ guys, you can use this replacement pillar it just has a slightly rounder shape alone the length (the gauges cover most of it anyway). If someone wants to take over a 2001 only GP, these would be covers because of the saftey device issue. If you wonder if you have the later model pillar, just pull it off and see if it has baffles on the backside.

Thanks for hanging in there .. sometimes too much communication is a bad thing (the earlier message) .. hehe.

As I said before, LoTek is making a pillar pod using my pillar and it should ship back to me next week for trial fitting.

Let me know of any concerns or questions ..

Thanks,

RoadRash

Hey thats great!!! I'm at work RR so if you sent me email, i won't know till later this evening. Anyways.. do you have a picture of your pod that they are duplicating (assumption) and are the pods themselves have more of a contour look like the full pods for the f-bodies? Also.. when should we expect the first batch to be ready for purchase/delivery? Thanx!

Yep sent it.

Do you mean like this?

Firebird off of LoTeks site:

Right now they are using my pillar to make a mockup .. they are physically modifying it to add the gauge pod - this is just for correct gauge placement/angle .. assuming that is alright and it fits mach 460, then they will create the mold and move forward. I think it will still take 8 weeks because the forming company is backed up.

Things are moving along well ... (finally)

Now you see.. those are the pod shapes our mustangs should have on the pillars!

Not those blocky crappy generic looking ones... now a triple like that design would look BAD!

So, you're saying it will look pretty close to that picture then?
