Any 302 based COP ignition setups?

Any COP ignition setups on a 8.2 deck with a traditional EFI intake (TFS, Systemax, etc)? I prefer the coils mounted on the valve covers because havenít really seen any remote mounted setups I like. Just not sure if itís possible on a 8.2 deck setup.

Looking for something similar to this, but this is 351 based.

That really doesn’t have anything to do with what I asked about. Thanks anyway

The reason most people have box style and carb style intakes when running COP ( although the correct name is coil near plug, coil over plug refers to the spark plugs with coil attached like the modular motors have) is the intake going over the drivers side valve cover. Granted you can run a 1 inch spacer and create the clearance. However the passenger side has its own issues, the throttle linkage and IAC can be problematic. Again with 1 inch spacer, right Throttle body spacer and coil mounting it should work.

I purchased some aluminum coil mounts and had them welded to the covers. I wish I would have spaced them differently because it is painful near linkage to remove IAC connector.

I think the ls2 coils are about 2 inches high.

I’m not asking about the EFI system. I’m running Holley EFI and have that part covered. I’m asking about coil mounting locations.

I did it but with the stock-style intakes overhanging the valve covers so closely, D585 coils simply do not fit. I used an explorer cam sync and mounted the coils in the space that the distributor used to occupy, right in front of the manifold. It's ugly.

How did the Explorer cam sync work out? Trying to decide between that or the extra $$$ for the MSD one.

Arenít there a couple different versions of the Explorer one? Which one do I need? Thanks!

That looks nice for the driver side. What about passenger side where the throttle body cable is located? I have an explorer intake and even with a 1" spacer there wasn't enough room.

The explorer cam sync is solid, no need for a high dollar dual sync or holley (china) electronics. I use megasquirt and designed/cut a trigger wheel that sandwiches between the balancer and crank pulley, then used a modified stock timing pointer to hold a hall effect sensor. If you use a crank trigger like this, you don't need a dual sync cam setup so the exploder sync works great. The two versions were VR sensor and Hall Effect Sensor. I prefer hall effect because I had issues with noise on VR circuits in the past. This leaves a VR input open on my ECU that I can use for something slightly less critical, like the VSS coming from the trans.

the hall effect explorer cam sync is a 3-pin connector whereas the VR connector is 2-pin. I thin they were used from 1998-2000 5.0 explorers?
