Which ECU

TO start I have sold my 88 coupe as a Roller and going to put my big bore 347 into a Explorer Sport trac, cam has been changed and twin turbos are gone. I want a street friendly ride so I am adding a 250 dry kit and an overdrive. this is where the issues start to begin since no factory ecu can remove timing when on the nitrous and keep the same timing when not on it, MSD will not work since this is COP. Which of these aftermarkets ECUs will control a 4R70W and work like factory. I know all will control the nitrous and each has its merits but which one will do it all. This is just a start to a long journey on this build since nobody makes headers with more than 1.5" primary tubes and then figuring out how to keep the factory dash cluster working while running a stand alone ecu. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Indy all I hear is the system that people use is the best so I am asking if the product is capable from end users. That being said I have tried to call DIY Autotune (Megasquirt) and only get a recording. They will not give support over the phone so you must buy their product before they can tell if it will do what you need. So tomorrow I will try Pro-M and see if it is capable and Haltech aswell, I currently have a Holley Dominator that will do what I want but trying to help a buddy with his build will sell it cheap if somebody elseís ecu will work for me. Also will give me first hand experience working with a different system. I will let my findings be known as I build the sissy pickup into a 9 second capable machine.

Megasquirt transmission control is called megashift. Yes it can do it. Here's a lead on someone using it with that trans. 4r70w build instructions(rough) - MSgpio.com read only forums (Jan.15,2018)

You would need separate megasquirt hardware for the engine and transmission, it's the same hardware but one you load with megasquirt firmware the other with megashift firmware. You can mix and match them too, you can run just megashift for the trans even if you don't run megasquirt for the engine, and vice versa.

If you want to lean on a vendor to get things working for you I would steer you to something else. Megasquirt/Megashift is as much about the journey as the destination.

DiyAutotune is a small outfit, their channel for questions and support is through email.

l.
Yup, it is called the journey through Hell. I swear 90 plus percent of the folks who try this system should not. Why? Because it assumes you already know what the hell is going on, and most folks don't. Lol

Lol.

I agree, a lot of people don't know what they're getting in to. Some of the purpose-built offerings can be fairly easy, if you pay attention to what that offering expects and bring a vehicle that meets the expectation.

The double edge of megasquirt is it's flexibility. It can run anything from a lawnmower, to an oddfire v-twin, obviously a v8, plus a 3 rotor rotary, as well as a gas turbine. Oh and the same hardware with different firmware loaded can control a transmission.

I think the problem is mostly people not being honest with what they really want and what they're really willing to do. If you're hungry you can buy a meal and you eat what you get, or you can enter the kitchen and learn how to cook. I think a lot of people like the idea of learning how to make a gourmet meal but only actually have the patience to pick something off a menu.

I have a Holley dominator ecu so it looks like I will be cooking a standing rib roast when compared to others systems, lol.

Switchable SCT chip on factory ECU? Up to 4 tunes can be loaded on the same chip and you can switch from one to the other via a rotary switch. I'm not sure though if the Sport Trac ECU is supported by a chip or handheld programmer.

CHP/CPR (Coast High Performance) / (Custom Performance Racing Engines)347 lasted a whopping 500 miles due to poor machining, metal debris in main bearings, damaged cam bearing and a balance job that was off 64ozs!
Buyer Beware.

I say this every time someone ask. Go to efidynotuning. There you can find out if your strategy is supported. If you don't see it ask. If so you can download it and tuner pro software it's free. If you like it and don't like to wait make the donation. First off a 250 dry shot is huge. I don't think you can get the fuel you need that fast. I would fuel it wet. No extra fueling from the ecm. As far as timing you can pull it from the load table.
