Can you swap a A9L for a 93 cobra computer?

I currently run a A9L PCM with 24# injs and a BBK mass air calibrated for #24's. Can I swap out my A9L and use a 93 cobra PCM? What is the main differences between the two?

yes you can. Will run right ? I don't know. Remember the Factory ECU where calibrated for the maf transfer fuction. The X3Z was setup for the 24s. I am not sure what BBK did to scew the curve. If you ran a cobra MAF it would be fine.

From what i have read there really isn't any advantages to running the Cobra. You can get both tuned equally well. I would only do it if you are wanting to put Cobra parts back in your Cobra

Do these A9L computers ever go bad and act silly or are some more forgiving than others? I ask because over the years, I've seen so many posts of guys who have surging and then just as many guys reply who say they've never had a problem with it and they are all using a A9L. Seems like it would be more consistent. My cam is so mild that I carry 16-17 inchs of vac. at idle which is not that much less than a stocker. My son's 85GT is carbed but he only has 9 inchs at idle. Thanks Guys!

All of the '89-93 EEC-IV computers (generally speaking A9L, A9P, X3Z, A3M, etc.) run what is known as Ford's GUFB engine control strategy. Any of these computers can run any other calibration, ie. an X3Z computer can run A9P, however a tuning device is required. Something like the TwEECer, Moates Quarterhorse, etc.

If you're not planning to tune and you're currently running A9L and thinking about swapping to an X3Z ('93 Cobra), think twice. The X3Z is tuned to use 24 lb injectors, so the BBK MAF calibration will cause some problems.
