Self Tuning for 87 Coupe EFI

I am building a 351w efi in a 1987 Coupe. I switch setups often so I would like to tune it myself. What route are people going now a days for self tune efi? Still Megasquirt? Other options? What all is needed? Any tips? I have done searching and maybe spelling it wrong but most stuff is 2 or 3 years old.

there's plenty megasquirt, aem, big stuff, fast, etc.. that people are using its just up to what you plan on doing and what your goals are as well as your budget

a stock mass air ecu from an 89+ foxbody preferably 94-95 mustang can be had cheap from a u-pull it, would be your cheapest and fastest route to go, and if it ever goes bad its only $100 to replace at any autozone

that does require you to learn how the ford ecu's functions though if you want to tune it yourself or just get a base tune done so its all dialed in then all you have to do is put in what ever AFR want you what ever spark advance you want, doesn't get any simpler than that, all the info you need can be found here

I'm running a FAST XFI that I bought used and have about $1,000 or so in it and really like it. Its fairly easy to tune and I don't have to worry about a mass air meter anymore. But if I was to buy a new unit it would be a new Holley Dominator. Probably hands down the best on the market right now IOM.

The first question when selecting an EFI system is what features you'll need. Fuel and ignition control are the usual ones, but think of anything you might have a black box controller for, and it may be possible to run it through the EFI system.

Best EFI

Holley Dominator with self learn is the way go and the latest out. Run a couple grand with v8 harness. Can get the Holley HP for around $1500 and does same less features but good for street car.

You can spend half the amount of the big guys on a Megasquirt and have everything they have including self tuning. I am installing one in my current build.

Megasquirt. Unless you got money to burn, then Haltech.
