Moats quarter horse or MS

So I'm at the point in my build where i have to buy tuning software. My setup is the following

1989 302 w/2040 crane cam (Ecam.....), 36# injectors, Performer aluminum heads (1.94 valves) shaved .30, 70mm TB and EGR, explorer lower intake w/M112 blower, BBK LT headers, catless H, 373 gears. I currently have a C&L 73mm maf but am picking up a lightning maf in a couple weeks from a friend that is upgrading his lightning. I understand if i go MS i'll loose the Maf and it wont matter. I'm new to tuning and am learning. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you have any specific questions or specific requirements/wishlist?

I don't have any direct QH experience but there are a lot of people who use it successfully.

A lot of people also use MS successfully including myself.

If you had some questions or requirements in mind I could at least help with understanding whether or not MS will meet your needs. I'm sure there's someone else who could do the same for QH.

Well i'm in Colorado and moving to Alaska come July. So i want to get the car tuned here to drive it a while before taking off to Alaska. Then when i get to Alaska, people who can dyno tune is limited (possibly none). I want to make sure that its easy enough to tune w/o dyno time or just stupid easy to tune. I was looking at the mustang PAP MS system that's $611 and i got a quote of $440 for the Moats quarter horse and 2012 dongle. I want the car to be street-able.

QH if you are willing to take the time to learn to tune. Your combo is mild. A base tune should not be all that difficult to accomplish and you can learn from there. The BE forum (EECtuning) is very helpful, but you still have to help yourself.

94GT-T5 Fordstrokers DIY 347, TW190 FAC-Ported Victor EFI-FTI Cam-90mm LMAF-85MM TB-42s-LTs-4.10s QH tuned. 12.10 @119.50 NA.

Old combo- 306,AFR165,FTI,12.88 @108 NA, [email protected] on 100 shot.

If you get a wideband and the registered version of tunerstudio software, there is an "autotune" feature for the fuel tables. Set an AFR target, drive the car, and the fuel tune will be adjusted to match the target.

You can tune ignition by reading spark plugs if you know that dark art, otherwise to do it right you really need a dyno but that goes for any system.

I have a PLX wideband that I use. So does the "tunerstudio software" just add on to either the Moats or MS?

Tuner studio is the interface for the MS. Moats uses Binary Editor.

Either will work. There are a several companies out there that can set you up with a base tune and then finish the tune off your data logs using Moats QH. Pretty easy and keeps you from having to tune on a dyno. I used Chris at Power Adder Solutions. Great guy to deal with too but if you a willing you can study and do it yourself.

I like the QH and BE and Clint has great customer service. I would also recommend EECtuning.org. Adam at pops racing set up my base tune for my 88 GT before I knew how to do anything with it. Knowledge is power, your wideband will be your biggest tool for tuning
