1GB of RAM enough for Binary Editor?

I'm about to get Binary Editor 2012 and a QuarterHorse. I also want to pick up a netbook because my current laptop is bulky and the battery life on it sucks.

A lot of the netbooks I see have 1 GB of RAM and usually 1.66 GHz processors. Is this good enough to use for datalogging and tuning with BE/QH?

I had the same battery problem, and 1 gig is enough. I think mine is 512 ram and it works fine. I just run out of extension cord pretty quick, lol

BE program opens slow even on a 2GB machine. Once open, the netbook is plenty fast. I don't like the screensize of a net book when trying to view datalogs (aka huge spreadsheets). Once complete and you only occasionally need to access tune, then the netbook option would be more attractive,

Well I ended up getting a mini Laptop for the same price as a netbook.

14" screen ASUS
4gb RAM
2.4 GHz
320gb HD
Windows 8 64-bit

$250 - not too shabby

On a side note, it appears that BE is a 32-bit program. So when I go to FTDIchip.com, do I need to get a 32-bit driver to match the program, or a 64-bit driver to match the OS?

Also, do I need the VCP or D2XX driver?

You need the driver for your OS. So 64bit on a new laptop.

I believe FTDI CDM Drivers 2.08 is what you looking for. It functions as both types USB driver with a single driver. The corret one downloads a setup executable. (it installs itself once you download and open it). You don't have to know where driver goes.

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Ok, just installed the drivers via the .exe download. I did it twice because it didn't show the Command Prompt the first time. But its still saying that the drivers aren't installed when I boot up BE. Already tried a reboot.

OK, first of all, your first month with any tuning software wil try your patience. After you get things working, you will begin the learning process. This will get easier soon. You will hang out on eectuning forum and meet brilliant people with no social skills. Go register there now. Do not start a thread that says, "I am a noob, please tune my car for me now". You must read everyday and eventually you will be happy to have paid your dues as you will possess skills 95% of your fellow stangers never will. Now on to your problem lol.

If it keeps kicking your butt uninstall BE. Download any and all drivers you thing you need. Reboot then re-install BE. For a little while you will probably think BE sucks. Over time you will realize how many different OS, tuning software, tuning hardware this program has to interface with. The program is very powerful. The owner of BE is Clint Garrity. His customer service is incredible. You'll learn that over time.

You might also want to go to Teamviewer sometime soon and download their trial software. It will allow people to help you remotely. It is slick, and free for you.

Also, can you open BE and get to the help files? Detailed getting started instructions are in there.

Thanks for the info! But I just emailed Clint and he said that BE will show that the drivers are missing until the first time the QuarterHorse is plugged in. So, yeah, awesome customer service from him.

Is anyone datalogging through a USB hub? If so, are there any issues?

Reason I ask is I'd like to get the dongle with BE and I only have 2 USB slots on my laptop. So I'll need one for the QH, wideband, and the dongle.
