Moates quarterhorse questions

Hi all,

I am strongly considering a Moates unit. I have done a ton of searching but can't find the exact answer I need.

If I buy the Moates $250 unit and Clint's Binary Editor, am I good to go? Can I tune and datalog with just those 2 items?

Once I get it tuned, I just leave the unit plugged in and it will just hold whatever changes I have put in to it?

So I download a strategy and load that first, then I download the the stock tune from the EEC?

With the datalogging, does it save to the hard drive so I can look at it later or is it only real time info?

Thanks,
Dan...

You also need a wideband to tune it right. Lots of people tune it without one, but then you just guess at WOT. Guessing is not good. Yes, you leave it plugged in and it holds tunes. I'd get a stratetegy from Adam at POPs Racing - it's not free, but it's better than a generic one. Yes datalogging can be saved so you can later review it.

With BE2010, you can only view datalog real time, with Engine Analyzer you can view the log file at any speed you want.

Might want to checkout eectuning.org. Lots of EEC IV stuff there that can help.

The one downside to the Moates is the CR2032 battery that holds the memory intact. When that battery dies, you loose your tune. Supposedly it will last for 5 years or so.....

Thats why you always save your final tune file on your computer or a USB drive

I couldnt agree more, but a lot of people don't do this or their laptop dies/gets stolen etc. etc. etc. I store all of my tune files in multiple locations for this reason.

EEctuning board.

I have been over there and I read the primer on the Moates site.

I have a member on here who has been helping a bit in email.

What I need to understand is if I get the QH hardware and BE software can I just plug it in and start messing about? I do not understand where the strategy or base tune fit.

If some idiot with mods (e.g. me) wants to toss his SCT tune, and go with QH, the wideband, and all associated paraphernalia, what is the cost?

What is the mtx-l?
Doesn't Moates also sell "canned tunes"?

If you are looking for a "canned tune" talk to power adder solutions.

Sell u a base tune for an extra 100
U can buy moates and binary editor through them. Awesome people.

As mentioned before go with an innovative wideband. As you can write then right into your data logger.

Eec analysis is also a good add on (50 bucks)

I bought the QH as well, been doing a lot of reading the past week on how all this stuff works. They weren't kidding when they say it's a steep learning curve

Got my tune from Willie on Thursday, and my licensing for EEC An and Binary Editor today. Still have to figure out how all this stuff works. Don't even know how to upload the tune yet

What is a wideband? I've been interested in Moates Quarterhorse for a while and doing research and this is the first time i've seen that. What exactly is a wideband?

Before you go with a Moates QH setup talk with Adam at Popsracing. To learn how to tune with this setup is not an overnight process if you plan on just getting a base tune I would also look at purchasing the book that LaSota racing wrote and a lot of tuners sell.
