1996 - 1998 taillights

I like the way 96-98 tail lights look and would like to put them on my 95. So heres the question is there a difference between the 96-98 cobra light and the GT light.
Thanks

between the 95 and 96 on up the wiring is slightly different. Haven't done the swap myself, but its not quite plug and play...but can be easily done as I understand it...

95GT Vert; Do you want a list of whats in my garage or whats actually on my car?

I had to get a wireharness from my Ford dealer. I think it was about $60.

I think I can get a harness from the local junk yard. I just wanted to know if the cobra lenses looked different from the GT's . B/C everytime I see a 95 with 96-98 lights they say O yeah those are cobra tail lights.
Thanks for the responses.

All you have to do is go to the local part store and get 2 standard size bulb sockets. The 94/5 harness have to tiny outer sockets unlike the 96+ lights which use the standard size plug.

$5 and alittle sodering and you're good to go.....

This is one of the biggest myths about the 96-98 tail light swap...unless you are very very picky about something no one will ever see, then get it, otherwise there a few work arounds you can use...having the harness isn't a live or die necessity for doing this...and the wiring itself is the same (you don't have to change anything).

In my scenario it WAS a plug and play deal...literally took me all of 20 min. start to finish and I turned the key and drove to work. The only problem is the lower (I think, may be the upper) outer most bulb, as Outlaw said the bulb socket is a bit too small for the actual tail light assembly...the whole where the socket 'twists' (you'll see what I mean when you start on it) into is a bit too big...I think about an 1/8th of an inch on each side, not much at all. I simply used some adhesive putty I had, it doesn't harden like something similar to JB weld, it's very sticky and just stays in a putty state, but it's still flexible so I can remove the socket if the bulb dies out. I just had the bulb surounded by some of that stuff and it hasn't budged since...I'm in college so the free way was more appealing to me Another friend just used a couple sections of 3M tape to secure it, he's never had problems either. So you really don't 'need' the harness, unless you want it too look totally factory, which is totally understandable...but who is ever going to see that part of your car? JMO...HTH.

FWIW, I just checked www.fordpartsonline.com for a price and they do list different assemblies for Cobra. Not shure what the difference is though. I can check my SVT brochures and see maybe.

Anyone know where to get a real set at a decent price? Pacific green.

Thanks, John

I went and checked fordpartsonline, and it looks like the only reason that they have the Cobra listed is for the Mystic paint color. The non cobra one contains all the other factory body colors. At least, that is what it looks like.
