MSD-6AL

just bought a new 6AL, i was told by the dude at jegs that i don't need a harness or adapter. My buddie put one in his 92 GT and used one. I havn't seen how the box hooks up so i don't know. Anyone have insight into this. Maybe some pics on how you hooked it up?
thanks

Without the adapter harness I am pretty sure that you need to splice some wires together. I am not entirely sure though. Good Luck.

you will need to splice the msd coil wires to the stock coil wires.

If you dont want to do this, then better get the harness.

The harness: approx. $20.00, 10 seconds to hook up, and keeps wires/area looking clean and neat.

Straight 6al wiring: free, approx. 30 min to 2 hours depending on handiness to hook up, and you have to keep the wires neat yourself.

I chose the harness. I got mine at mustangsunlimited.com because I live close to there and needed it quick. You can get it elsewhere. I highly suggest the harness.

You can cut and splice the wires but I think the plug and play harness is the way to go. If you pull the box for some reason you can just unplug it and plug it back in stock. It's worth the money IMO.

thanks guys, i called jegs back and told them i did need a harness. I got a different salesman who seemed like he was up on things and got it right up for me....$13.99! Would still like to see where you guys mounted it in our crowded engine bay. I'm thinking about on the transmission hump on the passangers side if i can't find room....

p.s. does this override the stock rev limiter? and do i take any stock components out to make this work?

I have the 6000rpm chip in now. Since the MSD rev limiter deals with spark, it will do that computerized thingy to keep the rpms from going higher than 6000--I forget what they say on the box and instuctions but it is something like a soft rev limiter. The stock one is set at 6250 I think. So, IMO it does override the stock computer. And no you just install and go. You do not have to do anything with the computer.

No it doesn't override the factory rev-limiter. If you put in the 6000 chip the box limit the revs but if you put the 6500 chip in the ECM will still limit the revs to 6250.
