New Motorcraft TFI looks suspect...

So I bought a new TFI module to have as a backup. Ordered from RockAuto. Came in Motorcraft Box. It doesn’t have the Motorcraft logo on the side like my other one and it feels/looks cheaper. Is this just what we get these days??? I’m sure it’s fine, but just wondering.

There have been a lot more cheap knock offs lately, and Ford is also sourcing parts from Chinese manufacturing facilities. Water pumps have been a good example of cheap China crap coming in Ford boxes. So it's much harder than ever to be sure you're buying quality parts.

I hope that TFI is a good one, I might swap that one in to test it, and keep the other as a spare.

I also have a spare one and if I remember correctly mine looks the same as yours. I can snap a picture of it tonight. It came in the motorcraft box but didn't have the motorcraft logo on it.

Thanks guys. I agree with everything you’ve said. So it just seems these are products we get these days. I will 100% use the new one to test it and probably just leave it there and have my old one as backup. Good tip.

So to add to the new Motorcraft TFI Modules looking suspect... I bought a new one to have a back up for the car season. I figured I’d swap now to make sure it works....it doesn’t. Lasted about a mile down the road. Swapped it back to the old TFI, no problems. Thanks Motorcraft!!!
So now which TFI module do I buy. My MSD has been working for 5+ years.

dont rely on them, switch to EDIS

if you plan it out, get the parts needed, when the tfi fails make the switch

there will be a point when the TFI module will no longer be available

Nahhh. Too many cars out there that use them to have nobody produce replacements. Someone will make a decent replacement. If not and aftermarket company will produce a workaround. There is a market for it.

Thanks guys. I think this is the route I will take. I’m going to start looking into switching over to EDIS. I run the Holley HP EFI so I have to figure out the path I’ll have to take. I will admit I don’t kown much about my other options, but it’s a great time to learn!

Even if they keep producing TFI modules, will they continue to be as unreliable as they are now? Is it that hard of a part to make reliable?

being unreliable is the same as not making them

Well at least if they didn’t make them We wouldn’t get screwed by them!
