89 hatchback marker lights (center front ) not working

I just got an 89 lx hatchback.

The front marker lights do not work, but the headlights DO work.

I am not necessarily a wiring guru and was hoping someone has seen this before and would know how to fix.

The sockets are old, but not too bad...

I did get the lights to come on, it was a fuse

BUT. Now the parking lights come on when the key is on. If I turn the key off the lights go off

Parking lights only. Not the headlights

I popped the headlight switch out and unplugged, parking lights stayed on...

Ignition switch?

ext lights are hot all the time, in all cars i know of

why do you say ignition switch?

was the fuse blown?

sounds like you have some wiring issues that was ghetto rigged by a previous owner.

no doubt that there was some wiring dumbassery

i had the number 4 fuse out and it was burnt. the guy did have a wire that he jumpered from the harness driving my two cooling fans. I wonder if when he did that if he melted a connection on the ignition switch and the fuse due to this.

I got rid of that sh$T and installed a relay. then started on the lights. Next, I will be pulling the RIGGED wire loom apart to see where the wires are going. it seems that an ignition wiring hot is energizing the parking lamps.

any ideas let me know.

Ill keep you posted

I have only had it 3 days.... still finding the rigging.....

I do not have a wiring diagram, so you are saying that they are on a switched ground correct? because if they are hot all of the time, and the ignition switch key on position lights them up, then Im assuming that that action(turning the switch on) grounds a circuit that shouldnt be grounded??

If you have a wiring diagram or a link to one that would be awesome.

thanks.

no ignition switch

they are hot all the time, right from the fuse panel

they are NOT ground side switched

power runs from the fuse to the main switch through the MFS, hazard, then to the lights

the main switch is the switch,

ever noticed you don't need a key in the ign to to turn on the lights or the hazards???
