coils

Are all coils the same? What differentiates a coil specified for an EFI foxbody vs any other coil, besides the obvious wiring connections.

I take it any one of those three things can make a coil suitable for one application not so suitable for another?

that is an engineering question

therefore you go with the recommended coil for the ignition you want to use.

That's kinda what I figured, when my ignition company says to run a $230 coil I begin to wonder if there's an alternative to that coil......or that ignition completely.

if you can get the specs, you can try to match for cheaper, might not be better

there is a good reason why the stock coil works so well with the stock ignition

and why a CD ignition is not really that good for a street car

For the time being I'm going to run my MSD 6530 ignition, later this summer I will be switching to an EDIS. MSD and the lovely internet give conflicting recommendations on what coil to use.
