Question Faulty speedometer

96 GT 4.6l speedometer works sometimes and then drops to 0 and then when you look back down it is working again, sometimes tapping on the cluster will make it start working again and sometimes not, could something just be loose, I know it works off a sensor if that was bad it would probably not work at all,any ideas would be appreciated. This is a project car that has had a lo of work allready done will post some pics later.

to diagnose the sensor and wiring you will need an oscilloscope

or just change parts
