Battery Lamp will not go off

I was changing my battery and accidently touched the battery cables that connect to the battery to the wrong posts for a split second. After installing the battery, I started the car and the little red battery lamp on my cluster comes on and stays on. I tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting but it stays on, anybody know how to make this light go off? I have a 1993 Mustang GT Vert 5.0 everything is hooked up right and this car is completely stock and never been missed with.

Most likely you fried the diodes in the alternator. It's possible to find an alternator shop that can put in a new diode bridge for you but you might have to get a new alternator.
