Charging system issue and or issues

Hi I have an 94 GT with what I thought was bad alternator bought a used one from a friend. Had it checked along with one on the car when I bought it a few months ago. They both passed found out there was an harness unplugged plugged it back in thinking I had fixed my charging issue. Until today that is its back not charging right again. Only show around 12.3v running and 12.6 off as well as only being maybe quarter way on the battery gauge inside the car. But when I thought it was fixed by plugging the connector back together wen back up to 14.2v. But back down like it was originally don't know if its related or not but it barely wants to run and sputters and acts like its wanting to cut off. Which it wasn't doing when I thought my alternator was going out. Can anyone help me figure out where to start? Thanks in advance!

Don't think it has anything to do with the bulb I'm replacing them because the tabs that snaps them in and hold them securely are broken and the the stator connector was bent and when I tried to sstraighten it, it broke. What would a bulb in the instrument cluster have to do with a charging issue? And affect the battery voltage range being around O in normal?

you say battery is at 12.3volts running>> the alt is not charging.

you say the bulb, does NOT come on during the bulb check WHEN ONE TURNS THE KEY TO THE RUN POSITION>

THERE is a reason why the bulbs come on line in run.

You think it doesn't have anything to do with charging......

you are asking for help, and you are telling me how it works?

I guess everything goes up in price, still cheaper than, new alt, batter, wiring, etc

Well you were right about the bulb not being out and it not charging right on the instrument cluster I found where my issues lies but thing is now is trying to track down where it's coming from. The amp/battery light you were talking about didn't want to work right with a known good bulb and socket. Found I can push against the wiring harness that plugs into the cluster and it'll come on and stay and the battery gauge in the corner will go from quarter way with light off to over halfway with amp/battery light on. Now I have to track down which wire is for the amp/battery light and battery gauge and or other wires causing it not wanting to work right. Any suggestions on how to pinpoint the problem wire and or wires easier?

time to look at a wiring diagram, for your car, and track down the correct circuit.

I think I found and corrected the amp/battery light issues and by fixing it I fixed the charging issues there were a couple of crooked circuit board strip that goes to the amp light. Moved it over and straightened it out as best I could and seems to be doing ok so far here's a picture of the circuit board.

now you know, the bulb is integral for charging, and the bulb test is important, every time you start the car.

Yea lol didn't think a bulb and instrument cluster had any affect on the charging system at all until now. Well I'm learning a lot with this old car at least lol.

if you look at your wiring diagram, you will see how it works,,,,,,you should really study circuit designs in your vehicle,,,,,it will be easier to diagnose.
