When I started my car I got 14.6v, then I went and started it about 5 min later and I got 13.6v with all acc off, when it's at 14.?v the engine sounds strong but when it's at 13.6 it sounds crappy. the first time when ran all of the acc the voltage was at 13.6v, when I ran it the second time it was at 12.4v and the car was running very poor.
I have a separate fan controller from massair.com and when I turn on the fan it seems there is a drag on the engine and the rpm's go down and I get about a 1v drop, when I turn the fan off the engine rpm's go back up and the voltage goes to normal. I have an optima red to battery.
It seems like an intermittent problem whit my charging system or voltage regulator. How would I check the alternator and voltage regulator? Also my alternator gets extremely hot after running the car for about 2 min when it's cold.
