You need to jump the clutch safety switch first, then remove the jumper for the neutral safety switch and plug it in to the trans.
Manual cars used a clutch safety switch and a jumper plugged in to the neutral safety switch. Auto cars jumped the clutch safety switch, and used the neutral safety switch.
All the wiring is the same, you just use one and jump the other.
