Flex-A-Lite VSC 31165 - How to wire 'fan on' indicator light?
I'm in the middle of putting a 3.8L Taurus fan on my '91 with a Flex-A-Lite VSC. I had a 'Black Magic' before.
On the Black Magic, I was able to splice into the +12V to the fan and power a small light in the car to tell me when the fan was on. With the VSC, instead of switched power, ground is switched. So, the fan wires are both hot when the fan is off. I figured all I would have to do is put power to the light in the car (instead of ground) and then use the switched ground on the controller to turn complete the circuit and turn it on.
Well, when I switch on the fan, the light comes on bright then dims and goes out as the fan comes up to full speed. The voltage in the switched ground to the fan is 0 but the bulb still goes out.
Has anyone else tried to put a 'fan on' indicator light w/ a VSC?
Does anyone know their electrical theory well enough to tell me what is going on and how to make this work (diode in line, etc)?
