Angry Starter does not shut off once car is running??

I have a 92 4 cylinder mustang with an auto trans...
I so far have replaced the starter solenoid and ignition switch in hopes to not have to get my hands dirty in chasing an electrical bug, but that time has come since neither of those solved the problem...

If I turn the ignition to ON but not cranking, with the car in ANY gear, the car will start and the starter will not shut off, even when driving. It will also crank if I turn the key all the way back to the ACCESSORY only position, however the car doesn't start (because the fuel pump doesn't kick on, obviously)

Anyone have any idea what else could cause this or which wires I should be looking for shorts in before I go digging around??

Thanks guys!
Allen

When you replaced the ignition switch, was it the rectangular block that you replaced or the key cylinder?

On the starter solenoid by the battery, remove the small wire from the small post and then turn the key on, does the car still try to crank?

x2 on the above questions. I was also thinking it could be something else. Have you checked your grounds? Had same problem w/one some time ago, replaced ground strap and problem went away.

I did not replace the tumbler. Just the rectangle ignition switch. What grounds could be bad? Could the tumbler cause this??

No because it also does it when you turn the key to accessory.

I don't think it's a ground issue, but, you have a ground from the battery to block, which would make cranking non-existent or very slow if it was bad, as well as a ground strap between the firewall and the rear of a cylinder head.

Does the car still try to crank when you pull the small wire off the starter solenoid on the fender?

I'm not sure. Haven't tried much other than my original post. I've been super busy and am gonna try and get to it this Sunday. I just need ideas to try an build off of because I've never tackled an issue like this before. I'll comment on this as soon as I get back at it. Please check back and continue to help! It's much appreciated!

OK guys, got a few minutes to work on this problem today.
I put a new starter in and the problem still continues. (It needed a new starter anyways)
I messed with some wires on the starter solenoid to try and track the short.
When I remove this yellow wire from the solenoid, the car wont start at all, as soon as its connected it starts and the same problem continues.
The yellow wire branches off into 3 wires and I need to track down where they end up.
Does anybody know where the 3 wires lead to off the top of their heads? All the wires are black and have no marks to suggest where they go.
Also open to other suggestions to get to the bottom of this. I'll have time tomorrow to get in depth.

Does your starter also have a solenoid mounted to it? if so, it could be possible the smaller wire is getting a short to power. If the only solenoid/relay is the one thats mounted on the fender apron, have you tried what SEIJIROU suggested and remove the smaller red w/blue tracer wire and see if the problem still exists?

this will help you track down those wires. That does need to stay on one of the 3 goes to the fuel pump ralay. Have you tried replacing the solenoid? what starter is no the car?
