85 gt-eliminating voltage regulator?3g alt

looking to get rid of the factory voltage regulator on my car. its still wired in to the upgraded 3g alternator thats installed.if i disconnect the factory regulator the 3g will not charge.

also....just checking on proper connections with the d-shaped and power cable conections......

1 the big power cable goes directly from battery to alternator stud
2 the white/black stripe wire goes to the plug on alternator beside d-shaped plug
3 the yellow???
4 the green/red striped???

yellow and green/red are switched 12 volts for which wire and ? for the other wire?

thanks guys

Oh gosh, I removed my factory voltage regulator over ten years ago when I upgraded to 3G on my 84 5.0L and used the internal regulator on the 3G instead.

Perhaps contact that company that always advertises 3G and alternator upgrades in the magizines and see if they have converter wiring.

I'd literally have to go unwrap my wiring (buried inside that 342 stroker, headers) engine area to tell what the colors matched up to now.

But the good news it's an easy thing to do (I know because I did it way back then with no help!).

so can i hook the green/red stripe wire on the alternator harness to the green/red stripe wire that runs into the factory voltage regulator? it is switched 12v? im assuming you can hook it to any switched 12v wire right?
