autometer tach problems

Hey all, not sure if this is the correct place to post this type of question but here goes:

just bought a 5" autometer sport comp 2 tachometer off of someone, and it was previously working when he pulled it off his fox. (keep in mind i also have a 92 fox, while his is an 89) I wired everything up. Wired the red wire into my ignition switch wire. Wired the black wire to a safe ground. White cable to the headlamps switch. Wire the green wire to the tan and yellow ignition coil wire. the tach illuminates, however does not read RPMs at all.

Any ideas?

I just installed a Monster tach in my fox last nite to replace an older one that had died. First thing I would do is grab a voltmeter/test light and make sure you have power, ground and variable lighting power as you expect. At work so can't remember if the green wire is on the '-' wire for you or not.

Hey I just read the instructions, for a 5.0 on autometers site, they say for the 5.0 engine, hook the tach signal wire to the green wire with the yellow strip on it. that is the neg side, even though we dont have the round coils on our 5.0's.

did you just have the wires crossed, or is it tore up, I hope you got it to work for you.

Rick
