I'm sure you figured this out by now, but... Both methods require a helper to depress the pedal:

1. Use a bleeding kit (nipples/vinyl tubes) to route the brake fluid back into the reservoir... have helper *GENTLY* pump the pedal until no more air bubbles are seen in the tubing

2. In a pinch (emergency/roadside), you can use your fingers over the ports, just keep the reservoir topped off...

Note: Both methods are messy and brake fluid *WILL* remove paint from wherever it sits for long! Use rags, paper towels, or baby diapers (work VERY well! ) to keep the lines from dribbling on your paint...

It may sound like more work but just remove the MC and buy the MC bleed kit in the HELP section of your local auto parts store. SO much easier and not as messy. And you won't need to worry about squirting brake fluid on your paint!

Also the MC is at an angle while installed and makes bleeding a pain in the a$$
