90 lx starter soleniod

hooked up new solenoid no power into car it has a 351w carb so no eng harness or comp. hooked up gauges except temp. i have batt on a big post a yellow, starter(old one wire starter),black/wht an i think dark green on the other then the top is red/green or blue. i had 2 black tied together with a star shape conn just layin around so i thought it was a ground sparks when hit to hot. as it sits i have no power to the car. its got a mallory hyfire 6al mallory dist an coil. i got 12.26 off batt and to solenoid where hot comes in. i will recharge the battery today. any help is appreciated. thank in advance.
