Brake pedal switch installation/wiring

I've had issues with my brake lights ever since I did my 5-speed swap in my '85 convertible, and I'm wondering if I just have the dang switch installed wrong.

Right now, it's hanging from the arm that the brake pedal and clutch pivot on, next to the brake pedal. It doesn't appear to be fastened onto the pedal in any way. My problem is that it changes orientation relative to the brake pedal, which results in no brake lights or having them always on. I'm wondering if it's supposed to be fastened or connected so that it moves with the pedal.

If I zip-tie it to the pedal, it works better, but I tend to periodically get brake lights when I'm not on the pedal.

I looked at a buddy's '90 Automatic, and his appears to be fastened to the pedal at a different angle and more securely than mine.

What am I missing?

Rebuilding an '85 convertible. Was a 3.8 C5 auto, now 5.0HO EFI w/GT40 top end, WCT5, 8.8 w/3.55's, MAF Upgrade, electric fan, upgraded brakes, all new exhaust, suspension, stereo, interior, paint, rims and tires. It's a work in progress, but REALLY fun to drive.

It's kind of tricky in the position it has to maintain to work properly.

There is a small plastic bracket that wraps around the pedal its held in place by the pin on the top of the pedal.

In turn this plastic bracket ...more of a plastic wraparound clip holds the switch in the proper position.
