CAM / INTAKE COMBO QUESTION?

I'm gathering parts at the moment to finish my more strip than street car.

Looking for CAM /INTAKE sugestions..

combo...
306 droped compression about 8.5 w/ J&E's
ported victor jr's (1262)
42# inj W/ pro-mm77 maf
75mm tb
vortech s-trim @ 12-15#'s
1 3/4" headers

looking for cam/intake to maximize the blower combo.

ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO RUN INTO THE MID 10'S

I'd reccomend lookin at a custom blower cam, and the Holley systemax intake. The holley is a proven performer on blown engines.

You should achieve your goal fairly easily. But as we all know, the horsepowerbug will bite soon again, and 9's will be your next goal

my friend had the same set up only his heads were not ported. he has a comp cam (224-230 533-544 114) and a GT-40 intake. went 10.60's with the 3.33 blower pully and 10'40's with a 3.12 on drag radials.

The best set-up period is the Holley Systemax or a good ole' Edelbrock Victor intake. There are several good blower cams out on the market like Crane or Anderson Ford Motorsport Cams. They're at www.andersonfordmotorsport.com They'll custom grind you a cam for your set-up. Should be $279 for the cam.

everyones forgetting something very important. what rpm do you want to shift the car at. that's gonna make a huge differance with what combo you go with. 6,000? 6,500?, 7,000??? try calling rick anderson at anderson ford motorsport, he can definatly let you know what cam and intake will work best with your combo for what you want to do with it

I would be in the 6-7000 rpm range. To start I would be 6-6200, until I had a chip burnt for it. the I would go out to where the power fell off.

I know the power band would be dictated by my cam choise, but the between 6-7000 is a good jumping off point.

88gtguy, what internal mods do you have? Any concerns about going that high with stock parts, if that's what you have? I'm curious since I have the stock crank and am inching my way up the RPM scale. So far so good, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

THE BETWEEN 6,000-7,000 RANGE ARE worlds apart. if you really want it to run good, you have to decide pretty much exactly what rpm you want to spin it to. then you cam, intake, and gear it to go work at that rpm. if you set up your combo for a certain rpm range then shift it as much as a thousand rpms different, it's not gonna get out of it's own way. also if you are gonna go to 7,000 rpms you're gonna need good internal parts(girdle,rods,crank and so on). remember you can still go pretty damn fast without spinning the **** out of it, but as a rule, you can go a bit faster spinning it higher. it's all about how fast you want to go and how long you want the motor to live

how my the combo sit at this point...
306 stock block that's decked, trued, torqued plated, and o-ringed
stock crank, stock rods with polished beams and arp bolts
J&E 8.5:1 pistons, (I will most likely put a girdle on it, not on it as of yet) fully ported Victor Jr's with arp head studs.
The cam I have right now is a TFS stage 2 with 1.7 rockers
42# inj with a pro-m 77 meter, an s-trim pulleyed at 12#'s right now (but a power pipe is on the way, so that should bump up a touch) I have a full aeromotive fuel sys on the car. pump, rails, reg and all -10, or -8 as a feed line, or -6 as a return.
This is backed by a tremec with a shatter shield and a center force dual friction clutch, alum d/s. the rear has an auburn 31 spline diff, FMS 31 spline axles and 3.73 gears. And there are 28-10.50 sportsman pro's on the back of it......Oh, and the exhaust is 1 3/4" hooker supercomps to 3" pipes dump with 2 chamber flows.

I think the cam choise is good, but who knows..

The intake I have right now is a slightly ported cobra with a 70 mm acufab t/b on it, But I think I want/need more.

Like maybe a 75mm? and a tfs "r" intake? or some of you guys think the holley one is the way to go?

you definatly can't go wrong by putting a girdle on it. you've got a nice combo, but you don't have the short block to spin the motor too high especialy if you want it to last. (i broke a stock polished rod in half spinning it to only 6,500 rpms) so keep that in mind. i probably wouldn't want to shift over 6,300 at the most with you stock stuff (you can shift higher but for how long) i'd get rid of your cobra intake when you compare it to either a holley or tfs r it's not to good. either one are good for your combo. if you are interested i've got a new anderson b4 blower cam for sale. let me know

To be honest, I'm not too worried about the rods really, it would be the crank snout. With the stress of the blower belt. Acceloration RPM doesn't seem to hurt parts ( unless I've been really lucky) it's the decelloration in gear the stretches the parts.

Thanks for the offer on the blower cam, but to my understanding the TFS stage 2 is the same profile. 232/242 545/565 on a 114 or something like that, I'd have to go look again.

the cobra is what I had on the motor. IT was a flat topped 306 w/ box stock tfs t/w heads, tfs stage 1 cam (same rockers I plan on using again) and a 70mm tb.

what do you guys thinks about a perform rpm ? anyone use one?

I would go with the holley systemax and keep the tfs cam for a while. I think you would be happy with it and you'll prob shift between 6000-6200. Dont go with the performer rpm, go with the victor 50 if you want elebrock.

bad choice, DO NOT put a victor 5.0 on your car if you're going to keep your current cam. that intake is designed for 7,000 rpms. that's what i have on my car.
