Vented battery box

If I remember correctly, and hasn’t changed since then, a sealed battery box without firewall to passenger compartment needs to be vented to outside the vehicle if using a lead acid battery. If that information is incorrect, please correct me.

As far as the venting to the outside of the vehicle, can it be as simple as a rubber hose plumbed inside the battery box routed to outside the trunk? Am I over-thinking this or does it need to be more elaborate? I’m using the steeda aluminum box.
