Atco 11/3/17

I went to Atco last night. Followed up on my previous visit. Please see here:https://forums.corral.net/forums/drag...0-20-17-a.html

Conditions were probably a little worse. It was about 65* and a bit humid for the first run. A front moved though and created pretty strong head wind for my 2nd and 3rd runs, as it cooled down some. I guess if I keep this up, I'll need to log conditions more accurately.

1st- 11.61 @118 1.59 60'
2nd- 11.67 @118 1.63 60'
3rd- 11.92 @114 1.62 60' (I missed 4th)

I did everything the same for the 1st run as I did for the last run 2 weeks ago. The only change was timing 10* to 14*. Same mph, maybe worse air, didn't hurt. The front end porpoised a bit. It didn't do the dead-hook bog.

The 2nd run, I tightened the struts 4 clicks and upped the tires to 17 psi. It spun, fishtailing a bit.

The 3rd run, I dropped the psi to 14 and it did the dead-hook thing, with a momentary bog.

I'm thinking the next time, I'll use 16 psi and set the struts to 2 clicks.

I'm learning that it seems to be sensitive to tire pressure and strut adjustment. I'm still missing something. At 118, et's could be about 11.20. It's not a scienced out drag car, so I'm not expecting 11.20's, but I'd think it'll go better than the 11.60's I'm getting.

My sig is accurate except I added Baseline relocated uppers before the last time out. It went 11.56 @118 before I did that.
I got videos and they aren't great, but I can't figure out how to post them anyhow.

What tire? Need to get that 60 down a bit and the Et will b there.

Stick cars like stiff wall slicks. A M/T 26x10 slick would work well on your car. No tubes. They r nice and lite

I run them tubeless. The budget doesn't support new tires right now! I just bought these in May. Have about 10 runs on them, a few hundred street miles.

I always run tubes with my bracket class stick car. Plenty of final rounds. I might change a lot of things around to stay consistent, but getting rid of the tubes aint one of them. Setup is more important.

Have u tried raising your launch rpm? What are u launching now?

Think I got my tires set near 15 psi drag radiials. That with an auto like a 1.20 60 ft. Box lower control arms and adjustable upper.

Does not sound like u are not doing bad.

Still 5500, as mentioned in my other thread. A pain to read it all, for sure. I upped it from 5000 the last time out (10-20-17) because of the dead-hook bog. There ain't much left! It's a stock short block and computer (w/a chip). I shift it about 6000.

65 degrees? Must be nice.

I finally got to go racing today, started out at 77 degrees at first round and when I was done it was already 91. DA 2500' and climbing, this was at 4:00 PM. Needless to say I was about a tenth slow all day mostly due to the humidity. Methanol hates humidity for whatever reason.

At least you guys are still racing! The track here has been closed for about three weeks and it has already snowed.

I'm running similar times with a stick, 4.11's and 28x11.50 QTPs. Fastest its gone is 11.62 at 117.99 1.59 60' at ~8200' DA. I too have played the tire pressure game and have finally settled at 32 psi front and 16.5 psi rear. I know I'm a little soft on my 60's but my car is sprung pretty stiff and this seems to give me the best overall traction.

Ha, I'd love to run my car at 2500'! Its a pretty rare day we get into the 7000's.

1st pass. Looks like the photog caught it in between porpoises!
11-3-17 R1 266 Seeing that left wheel up reminds me that I have a couple air bags. I'm going to put one in the RR.

Edit: I can't find them. I may have thrown them out the last time I took them out. I've had them since the early 90's. Maybe they had holes. I think it would be too long for my cut down springs anyway. Even with stock length springs, they held the car up a bit when they were empty.

Who makes bags for them now, and are they small enough for a cut spring?

What size rear tire you running ?
I would guess 16 to 16.5 psi for rear tires, and 3 clicks on front struts
Have you dynoed combo ?

I use these with team z springs (a little shorter then stock) I only run about 8 lb.
on the street. And I have the rebound one click firmer on the right rear.

Psi has been between 14 and 18. Seems to like 15-16.
I had the struts full loose, tightened to 4 right now. Thinking about 2.
Years ago (2000) it was about 360ish rwhp. I don't change much (I've owned it and been working on it since new), but it's probably about 380-90 now.
It's got all old school parts as a result of working on it so gradually. I'm finally at the point where I want to get it sorted out the track.

Good idea on the tighter RR shock.
The Airlift bags that I have (or had) look just like that one. But I know the ones I have lift the car w/o air, in a stock length spring.
I bought them way back when it was a family car, and we'd load it up with 2 kids and go on vacation. It used to bottom out w/o them. lol
Was stock w/ Paxton, and catback then. 3.08 gears. Ran 13.30's @ 105 on stock Gatorbacks.
But, I digress...
