Tire pressure issue?

I'm trying to get my car setup for its first test & tune night next month. The slicks I have now are 28x9.0 mt's. I've got them on a ten hole wheel, which I know isn't wide enough, but it doesn't matter because the tire rubs my exhaust anyway. I'm going to order the Hoosier 26x8.5 slicks before track time. I'm just wondering if these black marks are showing low air pressure (I've got 15psi in them currently) or if it's just from the tire being too wide for the wheel. Any ideas are appreciated.

It would be easier to read the tire than the mark. Your narrow wheels are not extremely narrow for the tire you have. That said it should mushroom the center with enough air pressure and one would expect the marks on the ground to read opposite of what you have there. Try bumping them up to 20-22psi. Did you feel any wheel hop? Remember the stiffest area of your contact patch with those is on the edges since they are supported by the sidewalls which may explain the marks. Read the tire as well.

No wheel hop. I'll try them with a little more air and check. I'm hoping to figure out a fix for the tailpipes so I can use these instead of buying new ones.

I run the Hoosier 26x8.5x15 stiffwall slick with no tubes and on a 10" rim. I got good advise from long time racers here on this site when I bought that setup. Evidently there was or still is a class that you must run that tire, so guys quickly figured out the best wheel width. Some even had custom 11" wide wheels made. Makes the contact patch very flat and even pressures. Depending on track conditions I will run them as high as 18psi, and as low as 14. It's a great tire especially for a stick car like mine.

Coincidence. A convenient and overused word for the mentally lazy.

My car is a stick too. I've been out looking at my exhaust and I just don't see anyway to run my current slicks. Best I can get is less than a 1/4" clearance. Figure a little tire growth and chassis movement, then they are rubbing again. The Hoosiers seem like a good choice to run with the ten holes and then when I get the funds I can use them on some wider drag wheels.
