Sidewalls 28x10.50 Hoosier vs MT

What are the stiffest sidewall tires that will take the most power without wadding the sidewall and tread all up??

At 12 psi air my Hoosiers wad up with anything more than about 700-800 at the tire, but they hit real good.

At 13-14 psi air they take well over 1000 in high, but they become spin sensitive on the hit. I can't be aggressive at all in low gear (1.69 trans gear and 4.10 rear) with that much tire pressure unless the track is super tight.

The Hoosiers seems to be limiting my ET. I've got to get the tires worked out. That is where the problem is.

I don't mind mini-tubbing the car or whatever it takes, but I cannot use rear coil overs. I have to keep stock bar locations and stock spring location.

I have got to get a tire that is more consistent. The car plus me is 3200 lbs.

Are you running the #18155 stiffwall? Tubes? I would hate to start running tubes, but they do stiffen up the sidewall. Might try the 18175 stiffwall, it's 29" but still called out as a 10.5, but has an 11" tread instead of 10.2 on the 18155.

Are you running a 10" rim? Better footprint and traction than an 8".

I have the 18155 with tubes on 10" rims.

I'm pretty sure my car either ate the Hooser tire sidewalls up or it ruined the tread surface.

Last weekend I had to launch at 9psi boost at 4300 RPM and then ramp up after .4 seconds. That's all the tires will hold now even if I roll up into the converter.

With the MT 28-10.50 x 15 S slicks or when these slicks were new, I could hit at 15 psi and 5200 and then start ramp upon release up to 25 psi. My stall is 6500 with a 1.69 low gear and 4.10 rear gear. That was a pretty violent launch. The MT's took that for dozens of passes. These Hoosers seem to be gone.

I also talked to a buddy who runs similar ET's (he runs low 5's) in a car a few hundred pounds lighter, and he just told me he only gets 10 passes out of a Hoosier before they do what mine are doing.

I'd rather minitub and use a bigger tire instead of paying $40 a pass for tire expense. I'm sure these tires would still be great on a 600-800 HP car, but they keep me from running over 1100 or so even down track. If I run enough air to not have them wad up and shake, they spin too easy. If I lower pressure a few pounds and get reliable traction, they shake the crap out of the car as soon as I apply any big power. If I run 800HP they go down the track without shaking.

I also noticed some of the track surface is still stuck to just one of them. It is actual pieces of track rubber on one of the tires. Both of them look like the check holes have stretched to an oval shape. I don't know anything about tires, but my guess is maybe they just can't take the weight and torque.

I have heard of guys rotating the tires side to side after each run and it extends the life of the tire, or so I am told. You go from getting 10 or so passes out of the tires to about 18-20 passes. Might be worth a shot.

I heard that, so I flip them side to side between every trip to the track. Not between every run!! That's too much like having a job, although I did just buy an electric impact wrench.

Is it impossible to get any life from 10 inch tires on a 3200 lb car well over 1000 RWHP? Would radials be better? I have some Pro Bracket Radials.

i have seen 28x10.5 3355r PBRs go high 4s at mid 140s on a 3400lb car making about as much power as you are.

I have a set I need to try again. They are a year old, but I've kept them bagged in a dark air conditioned room. Fastest I went on them was 5.30's, but that was a PT7675CEA and Chinese heads.

I've been running MT 26x10.5 stiffwalls on a 8" rim with tubes since July. They still rinkle up but I did notice in my videos when I play them in slow motion vs the non stiffwall 28x10.5 which I was running before. That the rinkles disappear sooner in the run when on the stiffwalls helping the car be more stable throughout the pass and my combo also goes 4mph faster with the 26" over the 28".

Based on your post your car likes the MT 28x10.5 Stiff better than the Hoosier. I am not surprised, seems the norm at the tracks here. For starters the MT is larger than the Hoosier. Why not run the MT then? Am I missing something? I think you answered your own question. I tried to put the MT on my car but it wouldn't fit without major work so I use the Hoosiers. But my car is "slow".
