All the pinion angle will do is change U-joint bind. It won't affect the hook at all unless a U-joint is binding or you roll the rear end so much you change arm angles a little.
You could have other problems, like the converter, but if you start putting power down having the nose so low is not going to be helpful at all.
Get a fast frame video of the car launching close enough to see the tires and everything up close. Then slow the video down and see what is really happening.
