Slicks on turbines?

ok so i did some seraching and couldnt find exactly what i was lookin for(maybe im an idiot)..but i have some turbines that i wanted to get a set of 26x10 M/T ET Drags or ET Streets(not radials) for..how come everyone uses 10 holes vs. turbines? they're the same size,right? 15x7? is the BS different?..

i guess what i want to know is will 26x10-15 ET Drags or ET streets fit on turbine wheels and fit on a fox with no rubbing? or should i go with a 26x9(or something not as wide? thanks

they work fine until you get faster, the wedge style stock lug nuts dont hold the greatest and can mangle lug studs. Been there!

so the 26x10 fit without any issues while they're mounted to those wheels?

i dont want to buy them,mount them and then have them rub cuz they're too wide

if anyone has pics of them on a fox that would be cool

They'll fit but will balloon out...........hoosier, M/T etc. recommend a 9-10in wheel..............not sure why guys use the 10 holes as they weigh more than the turbines but to each his own............

I use hoosier 26x9's on turbines..........1.51-.54 '60s all day on motor

nice vid,you think i should go 26x9 then?

also what are your thoughts on tubes? do you use them? i see alot of guys dont

I do not use tubes, hoosier doesnt really say yay or nay on it..............i'd suggest the 26x9's or 26x8.5's if you're a M/T man and you're going to use stock style wheels (15x7)........good luck and have fun

X2, I borrowed a set of 26x10 M/T slicks on turbines from a buddy and it got pretty interesting at the end of the track.

Take Mr.Blue's advise and go with a 26x8.5-9" tire on a 15x7 rim.

Ive been told as a rule of thumb that you want the tire to be 2 inches wider than the wheel.

Not saying you're wrong, but most guys that run in a heads up 8.5 tire class around here use 10" wide wheels to get the widest contact patch possible, and for better stability down the track.

They're running 5.40's-.50's in the 1/8th @ 125-130 with high 1.2-1.30 60ft's.

Outlaw 10.5 guys use 12" rims for the same reason.

and i think the "rule of thumb" is the tire should be "NO MORE" than 2" wider than the wheel
so,i guess its gonna depend on the track,but what generally is better,the Hoosier or the M/T? or doesnt it really matter?

ive got a set of 26-10 (10" tread) et drag slicks on some 10 holes (7" wide). i run them in the 1/8th mile because they are too scary on the top end. it moves side to side bad. i also have a set of 26-10.5-16 et streets (8.5" tread) on a 16-8 rim. and they feel like road race tire in comparison. its night and day in terms of how the car handles at speed.

no,no,no..not set on 10" in any way,after your answers,im def goin with the 8.5" M/T's or the 9" Hoosiers..i just wanted to know what people were using and what would fit with a stock size wheel,since i dont have the extra cash right now to buy the wheels AND tires

so back to my latest question:Is there really a diff. between the M/T's and the Hoosiers traction-wise? would the fact that the Hoosiers are 1/2" wider mean they'd stick better,or is it mostly in the compound?

i've only gone to the track once so far with this car(or any car for that matter,so please excuse my noobie Q's),but i was on street tires and had ZERO traction all nite(even got a little spin when shifting into 3rd gear),i'm going back saturday with a borrowed set of 255/50-16 BFG DR's on a pair of pony wheels to see if i can actually launch the car instead of taking off from an idle,but i figure if im gonna buy racing tires i might as well just get slicks. i dont mind changing 2 tires at the track

Its a little bit of both actually. For the power your car is making, a 8.5 tire is plenty wide. Softer compounds will wear faster and vise versa, so that totally up to you.
The suspension is a very big part of getting a car to hook up well, but so are the tires. I'm sure either tire will work fine for you, just pick one.

Just read your edit in your post.

Put 15psi in the DR's and do a good 2nd gear burnout. Good luck!

oh,my best results so far on the street tires with a full weight 92 lx vert(first time ever,so dont laugh too hard):

RT- .487
60'- 2.103
1/8- 8.910 @79.22
1/4- 13.85 @100.06

I've always liked/used M/T tires but thought i'd give the hoosiers a try, they work fine but i dont have a direct comparison to the M/T 8.5's............dont think you can go wrong with either at your power level IMHO..............good luck and have fun
