Went back to the track with my 95 GT....

Well I went back to the track tonight with my 95 GT. In case you missed my last thread, the car is a 95 GT with a stock shortblock, 64cc GT40X heads, E303 cam, and an Edelbrock Performer. It's a 5-speed car on drag radials and weighs around 3500lbs. with me in it. Last time around, I only made one pass and my launch sucked (1.92 60ft.) and went a [email protected] with the car also being hot on a hot day. Tonight it was around 55 degrees and on my first pass I did a nice burnout, staged, and launched at around 4500 rpms and cut a 1.76 60 ft. and then proceeded to miss 3rd gear like a retard and once I got it in kept going and ran a pathetic [email protected] Next pass I tried launching closer to 5000 rpms only to find that was a little too high. I spun to a 1.82 60 ft. and still struggled to find 3rd gear a bit and went a [email protected] I think if I had hit all my gears like usual on that first pass, that would have been my 12 second slip. Oh well, I'm pretty happy with my times since it was only my 2nd and 3rd pass since the car has been together and tuned. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for reading

Looks like with a good launch and hitting your gears you should be in the high 12's! Practice, practice, practice......

That's good. It gives me hope as i have a similar combo except with a Cobra intake and 89 hatch. What gears are you running, and are they the stock axles? Also what RPM's are you shifting at? When i had mine at the track i was only launching well pulling out like at 1300-1500, was worried about breaking something. Don't know how much the stock axles, rear will take. I was only running mid 14's at 99.xx.

Gt40LB, GT40X heads, Cobra Intake, E303, 30lb jectors, 70mm TB, 75mm Mass Air, pullies, K&N, 16* timing, 3.55's, Mac uequals, O/R H-pipe, 2.5 exhaust, flows, 190 FP, alum rad, hurst shifter, subframes, King Cobra Clutch, 180* stat,

Hey, I am running 3.73 gears and the only thing done to the rear is a new traction-lock because the stock one wore out, but it is still a stock 28-spline rear with stock axles. As for how long it will hold up, your guess is probably as good as mine lol. I shift the car at around 5800-5900rpms which I based off of my dyno sheet. I launch at around 4500rpms but I don't dump the clutch. I stabilize my rpms at 4500 and then floor it and bring my foot straight up off of the clutch in the same motion (although slightly faster) as if I were just leaving a stoplight. I've found that with drag radials, if I side step the clutch, they just go up in smoke.

Cool. I think i will try that next year, our local track closed for friday night racing and is only open for two more weekends. Keep us updated with the progress.

if u want your rearend to last get rid of those crappy drag radials. They are too stiff and will blow your rearend apart. I went for nearly a year on ET Streets with 0 problems. I bolted some stiff ass drag radials on and on the 5th pass blew my pumpkin to pieces.

Just trying to save some heartache.

I have heard that bias-ply tires are actually a lot easier on rears than drag radials but I like the fact that the radials are able to be daily driven and are stable at high speeds. Hopefully the fact that I slip the clutch on launch as opposed to just dumping it will help keep my rear in one piece. If it becomes a problem, I'll try some E.T. Streets or Quicktime Pros.

I used to have almost the same same combo in my 94gt. I had 3.73 gears, stock short block, t-5, edelbrock performer heads, performer intake, and e-cam. I ran a best of an 1.8 60ft [email protected] I think was my best. It's been quite a few years ago. This was on bfg drag radials launching easy around 2500rpm.

Nice, I think that's right around where I should be. I'd be happy with 12.9's, but I'd be thrilled with 12.8's or better. Then I'll slap on my S-Trim and go 11's

I found my slip. I ran a [email protected] with a 1.81 60ft. time. Good luck to ya. It definately can happen. I'm not the best 5 speed driver either so I went back to an aod.

Quick question...do you think it would be beneficial to remove my front sway bar next time I go to the track? According to my friends who were watching, my car takes off completely level like a train with no weight transfer. I realize much of this probably has to do with my lowering springs, but I would like to acheive a 1.6 60ft. on these drag radials and wondered if this would help. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Removing it will definately let the front end lift more.
