Is there any limit to how much power a sbf can make?

During Gateway International Raceway's annual gigantic Mega Test prior to the annual NHRA U.S. Nationals, Bill Glidden answered a question on the mind of just about every ADRL Extreme 10.5 fan. Based on his recent 4.20/170-mph eighth-mile pace, just how quick could Billy go if he ran his Mickey Thompson Tires Pontiac GTO another 220 yards?
Running with no less than two dozen Pro Stock and Pro Modified competitors, Glidden's single four-barrel carbed, nitrous oxide-aided small block Ford-powered Goat clocked two eighth-mile runs of 4.23/170.26 and 4.25/168.98...and then ran it to the quarter-mile finish line! The results were fairly astounding: testing new M/T rubber compounds, Glidden ran 6.561/208.14 and 6.566/211.76, respectively, to lay claim to the title of World's Quickest Unblown Small Block in both 660 and 1320

to answer the question of how fast a sbf can go is just depending on how deep your pocket is lol

You'd also need to ask yourself how long you want the engine to last, too.

don't remember that being in the original question....


however, on the topic, was awesome to hear about glidden when it happened... however, i was unaware of the fact that he also ran the last 660ft! and that it was also on a new compound tire!

at the track we go to and race 10.5 tire they are trying a new track bite from vp i think... it may be from vht with vp's liquid rosin compound... we've been getting to try it out at the events, and its some bad news stuff! would love to try a new compound tire out on this #### as well!

When it's that modified, is it really a sbf at that point?

Absolutely it is. It has Yates heads which have Ford casting numbers, as well as an SVO block which also comes from Ford. You can buy either one directly from a Ford Racing catalog.

It's the GM stuff that has to be all aftermarket, twin carbed, and 700+ cubic inches to achieve this.

Was at the track and saw the runs. He should've lifted more than a couple of times but stayed with it and ran it out the back door. If it had been straight it would've been in the 40's.

It's Old....Not Slow.
