going to the track for the 1st time, what should i prepare for??

well, im gonna see what my car does in the quarter and have been a little nervous always putting off from actually doing it..

car is a stock style suspension with only 50/50's, 90/10's megabite upper and lowers, eibach drag kit with right air bag on et streets

just worried the car is gonna wanna wander all over and put me in a wall

never even been to drag strip, not sure where to start with tire pressure and what rpm to launch, gimme some good starting advice

Looking at your sig, you've got a lot of car there.
#1 Get a feel for how the car goes down the track
When you're comfortable with that
#2 Experiment with different launch RPM's
When you find what the car likes
#3 Let 'er rip
Whatever else you do, have fun. Seat time is the best teacher.

yeah, thats basically how i broke i down myself

i feel like a teen who's going to a party on a friday night knowing im gonna lose my virginity to the school slut....makes me nervous but excited, ya know

Well if you have the proper alignment on the car and the suspension has a good baseline set up the car should go straight, but if you didnt spend any time or money on getting it set up, you may have some problems, with the power you have listed in your sig your combo should run very soild in the 10's. as far as tire pressure if you have never ran on slicks or ET streets before it may take a little getting use to the feel of the car moving around a little. Which track are you going to?? GLD or Byron??

Are you running DR's of slicks?

Are cars are almost the same set up except I have a turbo. Same hp though.

Biggest problem I have with is traction during launches.

If you get under 2 in you 60's you would definetly be in the 11's. depending what your rear gears are your probably there already. I am running 3.08's.

I went 12.2 with a 2.1 something sixties and letting off before the end (wasn't sure where the end really was- newbie). I did trap 117mph.

Here is a vid of one of my passes from GLD you can see how the car moves around, but thats pretty normal on slicks like I said after you get some seat time you will get use to it moving around.

byron on the 9th...

i've driven on my et streets, thats all i have used until i put the 315's on a few weeks ago

yeah, we blew the tires on every pass


started tire pressure at 12, worked my way down to 10 then back up to 11

launched at 5500 a few times and 4,500. best way to get the car outta the hole was to feather it then stabb it

tires wrinkled like a mother..

best 60ft was a 1.54 and best time was a 11.03 at 125 letting off and missing the 1-2 shift

got 7 passes then i had bearing failure on my s-trim, lol

it took alot of getting used to with a car making that kind of power and having no 1/4 expierence

soo many times i was in and out of the gas cause it felt like the car was all over the track but by everyones accounts it was straight as an arrow..also was scared of over shooting the return road, lol, better safe than sorry

btw those time were not run by me but by a friend with alot more seat time

its not like messing around on the street which i dont really do, especially in 1st. i was pinned back a few times

3.73's on a 26" et street

not sure what kinda of boost i was making or what rpm i was hitting the traps at...was just concentrating on going straight, lol

I used to run almost all 1/8th mile stuff. When I went to the 1/4 I got nervous because the car seemed to wag from the back end at those higher speeds. I only run slicks.

Best solution is to run high tire pressure until you get used to it. 15 psi - 20 maybe. Once I was used to it, I ran 9-10 psi on a 26x9 for reference. The thing I had to train myself about was that wiggling isn't bad. In a street car it means something is definitely wrong and I should pull over. In a tire with no steel belts it doesn't mean anything. Also you know a street tire at 10-15 psi would wander. Just have to recondition the mind.

Just the compund and wrinkling will do alot over a regular street tire. Then you can work up to lowering the pressure. Your car should go over 130 and maybe over 135 mph on the big end.

i pussed out big time..

the 1st time i almost overshot the turn off... i made he turn so abrupt the nose of the car dove forward and my front tires were squealing, i was like "oh ####!"

the car is down now cause the blower took a crap so im gonna go back up in the next month when the air is cooler

That's ok. My first time down the 1/4 I let off in a car that only went 110mph in the qtr.

Of course 9 psi tire pressure works better in the 1/8th b/c I was goin about 25 mph slower.

It's also good to know exactly when you can let off at the end instead of wasting shut down room. Once I saw where my car trapped, I calculated the rpm at the finish line and only pulled a little higher than that in case it was a good run. Then I would begin to slowdown.

Thinking about all this makes me want to get back out there....

Damn jackstand mustangs..... or should I say, broke a** mustang owner....
