Exhaust Dilema, 3" and 2 1/2

Here's the deal, 88 coupe 302 H.C.I. n/a, a.o.d. with a stall, 2,800 lbs. Currently running 7.35 to 7.45 at 93.5 mph in the 1/8th. 60fts are mid to low 1.6's. The exhaust set up is Mac 1 3/4 long tubes with a 3" h-pipe, into 3" ultra flows with dumps. I have been debating weather or not to change the exhaust back to something smaller such as 1 5/8 shortys that has been opened up a little, 2 1/2 x-pipe, 2 1/2 cat back. My thinking is that it will help the car 60ft better which will lower e.t's even more. The car was recently dynoed and produced 307 hp at 6400, 275 tq at 4500. Torque seems low especially at 2,000 / 3,000 range. Is it the exhaust set up or is it the Holley System max intake? or both? Any thoughts or experiences out there?

The exhaust is not the right place to look for 60'

The conveter needs to be very loose 45-5000 to get the car to 60'

It is hard with a AOD to find someone that knows what they are doing with a AOD conveter to get it to work correctly.

I just had the convertor re-stalled because I'm running one of Anderson Motorsports HR51 Cams and Rick at Anderson suggested that I have a flash stall of about 4500. Now my convertor footbrakes to 2500 and flashes to 4600 once I leave the line. Do you think that's about right??

Close

Mine goes 5800 on a 6500 shift when the air gets bad the 60' will slow .03-4 and the converter is only tighting 250 rpm.

I was also told that maybe I should switch my Systemax intake out for maybe a ported Cobra or a Peformer to gain the low end torque/midrange. Mt shift point now is 6,200. I wonder if those intakes would make it to 6200?
