I can't freaking believe what I ran on All Season Tires!

12.4 @ 120mph!

I decided to leave the slicks at home because my TQ boxes are getting close to needing "reconditioning" and didn't want to break. The damn thing hooked with a 3/4 throttle slip from 2000rpm in 1st, gentle shift into 2nd then mashed it to the floorboard and it stuck! Barked all the gears with quick (no powershifts as I didn't want to kiss a wall)and ran awesome.

I only got 3 runs and one of them I shifted 2nd to hard and cooked em a bit but still managed 12.7 @ again... 120mph. This was after I turned my BTM down a hair.

My best run I was over a tenth faster but in fear of breaking out (6 cars ahead of the guy next to me) I mashed the brake, STILL BROKE out. 12.494 @ 95mph on a 12.50 dial in. Damn it!! I should of kept it to the floorboard.

The 60's were consistant at 2.08's and 2.1. Kumho ASX 275's. I'm baffled I thought for sure I'd be in the 13's without the stickies. The in-car footage turned out awesome and I'll post it in a bit.

I've run 12.00x numerous times on stock radial tires with 1.8x 60's and 120 MPH traps. I can't quite crack that 11.9 threshold on them. I've tried it so many times, I have the launch and gear changes down to a science, I never spin the tires. But I can't find that last thousandth. On M/T drag radials it goes 11.5x

Our track isn't known for its great prep. Usually the best I can get with my ET streets is 1.7 60's. I'm jealous as hell you can cut a 1.8 60'

Greg, I am surprised tha DR's are only worth 5/10's on a car like that.

have you tried running your front tires at maximum air pressure and staging as shallow as possible? if that doesnt work, throw a few APC stickers on the windows and you should pick up a few tenths.

I put 45 in the fronts and 25 in the rear for my runs.

Looking just now at the cage camera my best run that I let off on I left the hole at 3500 with a gentle slip. I had no idea I left with that much RPM and it stuck!

I'm not suprised Brian- think about it- I'm starting from 1.8x, that's pretty good for a street tire actually. I see guys struggle to get out of the 1.8's on nittos.
If I was seeing the typical "stock tire" 2.0's and running 12-flat, I'd expect to pick up more than that. It's a matter of perspective.
Don't mean to be breaking my arm patting myself on the back here, but look at the the thread title.
Last night I ran a few times while working a big event (Between rounds we do prep and allow time runs) and some of my co-workers were busting my chops about how "slow" I was shifting. I told one of 'em I'd bet him $100 that he couldn't get that car to launch better than 2.0 or even make a "clean" pass without going towards the wall with that kind of power and those tires. He wouldn't take the bet. So for demonstration purposes, I only did a mild "speed shift" into 2nd and didn't pedal it like I usually do and it hazed the tires all the way thru 2nd and went 12.40...

Look at those "poker chips" on there, does that look like a 12-flat setup? It looks like another "slow" 94-95 car. Yes, those are the stock springs.
Suffice to say it surprises a lot of people who don't know the car.

Just in case you guys think I'm B/S-ing ya's... Got a gazillion witnesses, this is on tires you would get if you bought a stock Mustang.

Hey thanks for the props, but the fact is I get a lot of chances to practice. I've had this car the whole time I have been a Corral member (since 1996) and there was a time I was trying for 13's on stock tires. I've made honestly over 1,000 passes with this car, I know it so well, I can almost tell without seeing my slip how it ran. When you drive the same car year after year and happen to work at the dragstrip, you eventually get where you find a "wall" where the only thing that is going to change your ET is the weather if you "drive it right".
I remember when I first got this car, I couldn't get a 13.9x (obviously it was mostly stock)
If you set your sights on it, you'd find those 1.80's but most guys would lose patience with that and just put the stickies on. I will offer one tip though- 99% of racers you talk to will say "Doing a burnout on street tires is a waste" and will provide 100 reasons why that's bad. People often ask me "Why do you do those big burnouts with stock tires??
Show them a timeslip like the one above and they either get real quiet or smile and say "Nevermind!"

I've tried EVERYTHING. TRUST ME.

I've raced my car a long time too. 8 years. First time I tried to go with slicks with the blower I did a 12.3. Now I can damn near do that on street tires. Funny how driver can be SOOOO much of a factor. End of the year I dropped down to 11.44 on my slicks.

OH...

My buddy posted them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is4Z1WmUT_w

My friend next to me has a KB'd 2.8 Cobra with 610rwhp and Nittos. I thought for sure I'd get waxed but I guess this new setup is stronger than I thought. I'm going to take the car and get it dyno'd prolly tomorrow.

Nitrous SSC: What were your 1/8 ET and Trap on all season tires?

What do you usually run 1/8 ET and Trap on DRs or slicks? I have a kinda similar combo. Would love to get rid of this 4.10 and go down to a 3.55 gear for highway cruising and not having to shift so soon.

My 1/8 on 275/40/17 Kumhos:
1.84 60'
7.76 1/8 ET
92.230 MPH 1/8 Trap Speed.

Thanks.

Not sure on the ET of 1/8th but I do remember my traps were 93mph at the 1/8th.

If you're really making as much as I am you need 3.55's. I hit my shiftlight just before the 1/4 mile. But then again I only spin mine to 6k.

How much did the meth help you out? Did you retune your car or just add it on. What kit ?

I have a BTM and I can adjust my timing to take advantage of the meth. I recently dyno'd the car (last monday) and without meth and the timing down it makes 470rwhp 450tq. With the timing up and meth on it did 520rwhp 490tq. Both runs with 10psi.

So yes. It definatly helps.

I have a BTM also. Will have to look into that. When I bought the car the vac line for the BTM did not even exist (box is mounted inside car).
