Water restrictors on the street?

I'm adding a Meizere water pump to my 94. The car is a cruise night/drag car, just a toy I will drive to the track. I want to wire up the pump and fans to come on between races to cool her down. Are water restrictors ok for the street, or should I stick to a thermostat?

i run a water restrictor. Never had any issues. It did take me awhile to find one that i was able to control the temperature of the coolant during citty cruising.

I drilled (3) 3/16" holes around the flange on my thermostat. The Moroso pump I have has no provision for bypass. Works fine for me, it's a track only car and I have no issues cooling between rounds.

Cool, good to hear. The Meizere does have provisions for the bypass, I forgot about that. Could I just run the regular thermo and keep the bypass and serve the function I'm shooting for? Thats what its for right?
