Transmission issues in 1994 lightning

The tranny is slipping out of gear while driving, slips for a few secons then somewhat violently goes back into gear and makes the truck jerk as it goes back into gear.

Any ideas if the trannys going out or if it could be something simple. the truck has 85,000 miles.

Thanks Mike

Tranny problems

Have you tried checking the KOEO codes? But, it sounds like you have a clutch pack, internal apply piston seal or converter clutch going out. E4OD's are not cheap to have rebuilt, unless you can do it yourself. I rebuilt mine for less than $500. Caution: they are a little complicated.
Good Luck

Yeah you need a tranny. Nothing like that would be a simple problem

That's what you always hope, but it never turns out that way with an E4OD. I went through 8 of them on an F350. Luckily, it was under warranty up until the last one.

I got lucky with my 92 Bronco..sold it with 200k+ miles on it and the fluid was still bright red when i sold it. My service manager at work drove it and asked me when i put the trans in..i said never. He said it was the best shifting E4OD he had ever driving with that many miles on it. Even the guy that bought it from me asked why it ran so good lol.
