HELP ! need someone that knows F series wiring

the truck is: 94 F series
the question is:
is there a way to light up a gauge cluster (out of the truck) to see what the miles are ? ive heard that the "miles" are not stored in the odometer itself but in a separate computer located under the dash so if i change a speedo cluster the miles should be the same as what i have ? doing this for a friend that just HAS to have a tachometer

not sure on how to light it up off the top of my head....i can check a wiring diagram and tell you what pins to power up if that helps. However the mileage is stored in the cluster, it can only be set by a speedometer repair shop and usually they can only go up from what it currently reads.

What exactly are you trying to do??
