OK...whats wrong with my lightning? (ran HORRIBLE)

[email protected] acceptable!

it doesnt throw check engine lights, though I do need to scan it for codes. It has (as far as i know) a exhaust without cats from just behind the stock crossover back (sounds like crap...redneck style flowmasters) A K&N and possibly a chip.

I bought it yesterday, changed the oil, put new plugs/cap/rotor/wires on, didnt help one bit.

It idles at 800-900rpm, driveablility is great, it seems to shift HIGH, 1-2 is 5200 2-3 is 5300 or so, after 4500rpm or so it just FALLS on its face. It feels like its shifting like its at WOT, but the truck isnt at WOT....doesnt make any power.

The ONLY thing I can think of is the plenum spacer is messed up...or this thing doesnt have gt40 irons on it.

Any other ideas? At part throttle, from 2500-4500 it seems to pull strong, just at WOT it falls on its face...

yeah that does suck

id say see if it does have a chip and pull it out and see if the shifts change at all

make sure OD is off when you run

check your ignition timing, make sure your plug wires are on the right plugs, etc

oh yeah do you know how to check if you have GT40 heads? ( i have heard of this problem more then once!)

well under full throttle it shouldnt shift to OD but just to be on the safe side i always turn my OD off before i run

quick way to tell if they are gt40s is to take a look at the front intake side corner of the passenger side, should have a small "GT" marking. im sure they are but i do know of one guy who got stuck with regular heads and also know of another rolling around somewhere with E7 heads on it

Check your TPS sensor. Should be .98 volts with the truck off and the throttle closed and around 4.6 volts(can't remember if it's 4.3 or 4.6) at wide open throttle(truck off). Check your timing with the chip unpluged if it does have one. Timing on a L with 93 oct gas should be around 14*-16*. Check fuel PSI, O2 sensor,etc.....
Good luck! Matt

What do your plugs look like after a run? I agree with the rest... check your fuel pressure, tps, timing, etc.
It wouldn't hurt to change your fuel filter, I picked up 2 psi when I changed mine.

Just in case you don't know how to check the timing on a Lightning, click on the following link.
