AFR 185's clear a stock lightning (351) shortblock?

Anybody tried this? I don't even have a lightning, yet I was thinking picking up a gen 1 lightning, slapping on some AFR 185's, maybe a Holley Intake, and a nice smoggable cam would be just the thing.

Do AFR 185's clear stock slugs? Any idea on the clearances? Can AFR 185's then be milled for compression? Or am I looking at notching the pistons.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, are 12's and 400 rwhp N/A realistic for this combo? Great heads, great factory shortblock , great intake, and a well matched smog-legal cam. I'm thinking 12's like as in 12.9 @ 103 or something on slicks, btw.

im pretty sure the pistons will need to be notched

also smog legal N/A 400 rwhp is probably a pipe dream

Yes you can put them on the Lightning. I just did this a couple weeks ago. No need to notch with stock cam. Our pistons are actually dished.

I'd still check because I don't know what your block is and what pistons you have. But if they are dished you should be ok. I'm not gonna tell you for sure because I don't know if there's a difference between a regular truck short block and the Lightning short block. But the 2.02 valves were fine in the L. FWIW I am actually using the 1.7 rockers and the crane Lightning cam and am still ok. I have a custom cam on the way with more lift and duration and will still work but only because it's bein timed right so I won't have PV issues.
