Carb'd Lightning Engine

I am putting an Lightning Shortblock in my '69 Mach 1 and am trying to figure out what head/ cam / intake combo should get me to my goal of 450hp (atleast)

Driveability is a huge concern though - what do you guys recomend?

If drivability is a huge concern your probably not going to make over 450 hp without a power adder. Sure you can make that much power with a 351 n/a but it's not going to pur like a kitten. Its also going to lack low end power.

a good combo is a GT40 intake, eddy performers, performer rpm's or victor jr's, or AFR 185 or 205, or TFS and a comp XE268 to XE272(i think or 274). That should put you right at the 400-450 mark, depending on compression.

Modine 2" radiator / Dual efans

When u pop the heads intake and cam out you then just have a basic 351. Nothing different from a regular F150. So u can go back over to the mustang section and get more answers.

Oh, the best carb intake i've used for this set up is a edelbrock performer rpm air gap. Did wonders on a 351 i built when i changed from a edelbrock performer to the rpm air gap.

Spend the money on the heads. I would do AFR 205's with a custom hydraulic roller camshaft from Ed Curtis @ FTI. Get the heads milled to put your compression to around 10.5-1. Use a ported Edelbrock RPM Air Gap and a 750 cfm double pump carb. You should get close to 450 at the crank and around 375-380 to the wheels depending on the trans.

If you want 450 to the wheels, stroke it out to a 418W and use a ported Vic Jr intake on it. Up size the carb to an 850 cfm, leave the compression ratio at about 10.5-1 and let Ed grind the cam for the larger cubic inches.
