How Much Oil?

Question;

I'm running a Moroso 7 quart pan with an oil fed Vortech V1. Would I want to put more than 7 quarts in?

My dipstick doesn't read any oil at 7 quarts, presumably because I had to put a few extra bends in the tube to fit with the new headers. I'm looking for a good base before I start shortening the tube to get a reading.

Thanks.

So the 7 qt pan only holds 6 1/2 qts then? No allowance for the extra oil in the filter?

Just wondering as I am running a 7 qt Ford Motorsports pan and they specifically stated to add another 1/2 qt to the pan on initial startup for the extra amount the filter would hold. So 7 1/2 qts total.

Interesting how different manufacturers "rate" things...

Strrrrroker powered 460sbf, 24 forward gears, 4 reverse, OBA for ARB lockers frt/rear, 35 spline RCV chrome alloy axles frt & rear, FF rear, all custom-everything but the windshield frame and glass is custom, ...

Doesn't the fl1a hold a quart? So I always thought with a 7 quart pan the system would hold 8 quarts.

A FL1A will hold about half a qrt of oil. I always prefill the oil filter before installing it on the engine and they take about 1/2 a qrt to fill.
Stand a qrt of oil next to a FL1A and you will see why it will not fit in the filter.

I have a 7 quart Moroso pan that I also received from woody. With oil in the filter I use a hair more than 7 quarts total. Realistically even if you’re at 7 total, including what’s in the filter you should be fine.

I use the Moroso dipstick that’s meant for the pan and fill it to just under full. Works good for me.

Do you have a link for that? The Moroso website only has universal dipsticks.

I run 6 qrts with filter in my Canton 7 qrt Drag Race oil pan. I do not use a dip-stick.

I set up my dipstick to read full at 7 quarts, but I fill with 6 quarts in my Canton road race pan.

I had a dipstick, had to remove it due to headers. I'd like to have a quality flexible shaft dipstick, but I can't find one long enough.

The moroso 25971 is what I use. “Full” is when there is about 7 qts in the pan.
