Motorcraft DY1284- doesn’t matter 5.0 or 5.8.

Stock block 306, V1 T-trim, AFM B-451 cam, TFS Twisted Wedge, Holley Systemax, A1000, Snow Meth, TKO 600, Team Z, Strange, MM, Lakewood and Moser helps me go forward fast.

Oh ya, you say no MSD...I just bought a Motorcraft as a backup....had to swap back to my 6 year old MSD module, on the side of the road, to make it back home.

I have been running a mallory distributor i got from summit racing since 2014 with no issues but i pretty sure that part is discontinued now.The msd unit went out in just a few hundred miles.

I've been running a Spectra FD19 on my 393w, it comes with a steel gear, all the guts/tfi/shutter wheel have been swapped for Motorcraft components.
All the Motorcraft electronics can be found on rock auto except the shutter wheel , you can use the factory one off a 302 distributor or get the one from Pro M.
I've had issues with the aftermarket shutters.

Put a new 351w "AUTOZONE" distrib in and it didnt want to drop all the way down without binding up...
Went in all the way down to about the last 1/4 inch , had to use the distrib bolt to tighten it down into place, not wanting to do that...
Obviously car wont turn over very good like that...actually car would not start on that distrib anyway...(i know risky) but desperate to get it to fire and eliminate the hard to start issue...
So i put old motorcraft distrib back in to avoid tearing up anything..
Old motorcraft distrib drops right in flush

Everytime we try to find the right distrib at parts house its always wrong

What is the correct part number for the replacement distrib ??

Autozone ?
Advance auto ?
Pepboys ?
Oreily ?

Like I posted above use a Spectra FD19 I believe I got mine at Autozone. Not sure what year your 351w block is but on my 69 block
I had to trim about 1/4" off dist. shaft for shorter deck height.
In my experience running an aftermarket distributor without changing the electronics to Motorcraft is going to cause issues.

Funny, you bash MSD in your first post, but I bet you wouldn’t have any problems if you put a nice MSD unit in there. Never had an issue with mine. Actually several of them.

MSD DISTRIB .......
i spent my money on a new one for 302 yesrs ago !!
It failed with less than 100 miles on it
Had a dead miss in it....

Put stock ford distrib in it on ANDERSSON FORD DYNO
PROBLEM fixed !!!!!
(after replacing every other part that could fix a miss ) plugs cap rotor wires etc...while on dyno

I am not spending $300. On a distrib
When i can factory replace one for $100.

Do your thing man. Doesn’t seem like you’re having much luck though

I used to run MSD but have heard really bad things about their quality now and am looking for another brand for my next build.
