Holley Terminator or Sniper EFI Setups on NA 347 / 363's

Hey Guys,

Wanted to see if anyone is running a Holley Terminator EFI or Sniper EFI setup on a high RPM (up to 7500) NA 347 or 363 with carb intake manifold and what your experience with the system has been. I am currently looking to put a Holley Terminator Stealth 550-442 P.N. in place of my 950HP holley carb. I have read the driveability is very good, but does anyone have before and after dyno results on setups making 550 HP or more. Haven't seen many posts on the Mustang Forums of guys making this switch on hot strokers so wanted to see what people have done or are seeing on the track and street. Any feedback is welcome.

Im interested in this also, but holley says its not for E85. Not sure why tho, havnt called. Also havnt seen anyone run a similar setup on a hot SBF.

On a 500 hp 408 Chrysler...... Hot Rod saw a 3 hp difference (loss). 500 versus 503 at the crank. Overall the change was an average loss of just over a single foot-pound and just under 2 hp. But with notable gains in the mid-range. I Excelled the dyno report to get those numbers. I also found the average percentage change was roughly -0.3%. WAY within any margin of testing error used in the industry. I'd say it was a wash. But it probably starts better and runs better and cleaner with the EFI. At this small variance I'd say it boils down to personal preference.

Personally I would not fret losing 3 hp at 5800 rpm and I would welcome the 10-15 ft-lb gains at 3500-4000 rpm. I would use those lower rpm gains much more often than the top end gain. In a racing situation the differences would be erased by driver ability and car setup and weather factors and a host of other variables.

Do you want to tinker with jetting or do you want to turn the key and drive? Are you racing at a highly competitive level? or just for fun? Those are rhetorical, BTW.

I'd also be interested in actual first hand results from the Ford world.

Holley dodges e85 questions like crazy. Why would they release stuff like this without verifying it with one of the most popular fuels?

e85 is basically a dead fuel in my region. Used to be available at a dozen local pumps. It's like two or three at most now. Non-ethanol is the growing fuel around my neck of the woods. I think e85 will become like race fuel. Only a couple places have it. It'll become a pain to get and use reliably and people will shift away from it. May be a different story in the mid-West.

They probably see the masses trending away from that fuel.

E85 is dying out here as well. Many guys are ordering it by the barrel for convenience.
AZ has some of the crappiest gas known to man. It's sourced from CA. I couldn't believe it when I last visited NY and my mother was able to pull her Harley up to a non ethanol pump. You guys have high fuel tax but what I wouldn't give for 93 octane, non ethanol fuel.

CHP/CPR (Coast High Performance) / (Custom Performance Racing Engines)347 lasted a whopping 500 miles due to poor machining, metal debris in main bearings, damaged cam bearing and a balance job that was off 64ozs!

Hey Woody,

Just looking to tinker less with the carb to keep the car is perfect tune year round. The engine drives great with the carb and is an absolute blast to drive on the street, but I have the usual issues with the carb. Gas smell in garage after parking, cold start with no choke takes some foot feed to keep in running for 30-60 seconds when cold, fuel varnish issues occasionally, running the AC requires turning up the idle a bit in summer, and some occasional hot start issues at the track / hot days. Overall the carb issues are no big deal, but all the hotrod / cruiser guys I have talked to running these Holley systems on mild V8's say you will drive the car so much more after installing it. They say it is get in an go with no hassles after install and cures all the issues above and drives / throttles fantastic on the street. I just don't want to loose any noticeable power in getting these benefits. . . . .

Keep in mind that none of these self learning EFI setups are plug and play if you want peak performance. Guys are still tweaking the setup to get it right.

Ya I am planning to fine tune it on the dyno after install. I only expect the self learning to give me a decent baseline and then adjust from there for optimal performance. I like the forum they have setup and how its broke out by EFI system as well, in that when you have issues there are 100's of people using the same EFI system to help you troubleshoot and fix problems fairly quickly.

Did you ever make a switch? I'm getting ready to switch my 342 to a Super Sniper 650 , vic jr , in preparation for a 363 in the future. Not quite with your aspirations, but making max power around 6500 sounds good.

Anyone with any experience yet?

Well I am in the process of installing the 550-442 Terminator Stealth Kit. So far I am very impressed with the product after unboxing everything. I am going to be running this with the Dakota Digital gauges and found out the two products with the right adapters and interface items work very slick together with some careful setup. I will update once I get it running this spring.

I will post some after install dyno results as well since I have not seen anyone running this on a high rpm stroker, but I expect to pick up some power as this throttle body flows 950 cfm roughly 120 cfm more than my current carb setup.

I am having the same motor built. I'm sure its a way different cam but its really cool to see the power it can make with a different intake a fuel setup. Do you mine posting your Dyno graph.

Main reason for the Terminator over the Sniper is the ability to run with the Dominator ECU which has alot of expandability and additional options for the future. Second reason is the look, Terminator Stealth looks just like a 4150, which is what I wanted since this is a show car primarily. The Throttle Body on the Terminator is also 950 cfm vs 800 cfm on the Sniper kit as well. So far the kit is well engineered and looks great on the car and isn't too bad to install. Should fire it up in a few weeks. The average person won't know its EFI unless they look close.

Hey Guys,

Got the car fired and I have to say I am impressed with the Holley System. People will really have to look hard to not think this is a 4150. Only idled the car and revíd it in the garage for about 20 minutes, but man I like it so far. Within 1 minute the EFI had the car running smooth and on the correct Air Fuel setting, no stalling or anything on the initial fire up. Throttle response is so crisp now, after just 20 minutes of learning, and will idle much lower than with the carb. AC on / off and electric fan on /off doesnít phase the idle RPM setpoint. Canít wait to drive it, should have some driving reports in a week or so.

And the best part the car did not stink up the garage that night, no fuel smell in the morning.

Congrats on the first start up.
I put a Sniper on my 302 with mild cam.
I was curious how the idle would be compared to my carb. I'm happy with the result.
I have a open plenum Vic jr. intake and got the low air sucking noise while driving. I put on a 4 hole spacer as suggested and it is fine now. The car drives better with the Sniper than the carb. It has much better throttle response and drives great. The Holley Sniper forum has been great for general tuning help.
Keep us posted on your tuning with it.

I wanted to go with one of these systems for my 427 stroker combo but i just dont understand why holley makes the sniper to support 650hp with 4 100lb fuel injectors and 800cfm throttle body but the terminator only comes with the smaller 80lb injectors but 950cfm throttle body and only rated to 600hp i dont know seems a liitle strange to me.i dont think my engine is making 600hp but it might be close and was afraid of maxing the injector out to much at wide open throttle. I dont know anyone have the holley terminator on a 427ci combo?

Do the sniper 1250.

Sniper 1250 is still a 800cfm throttle body.
I was really wanting atleast a 900cfm

Hey Guys,

Well made the maiden voyage on EFI this last weekend. I have to say I am pretty impressed with the Holley Terminator Stealth so far. Looks wise it is killer most don't even realize the car isn't carbureted anymore, will try and post some pics. It idles and throttles great so far I only have about 20 miles on it. Its pretty cool you can actually feel it learning and improving as you drive and repeat different scenarios. The tone of the car has changed as well, especially under power and the mid range and throttle response feels stronger. It has been a job to install and get everything between the Dakota gauges and the EFI sytem working though lots of phone calls to Holley and Dakota, but I am happy with the end product. I can have my wideband output right to the gauge cluster LCD screen now and the gauge brightness / responsiveness is night and day to my old LED upgraded stock cluster.

Best part the car fires right up, no waiting to warm up, and no gas smell in the car while driving or in the garage after parking it.

Plan to get it on the dyno in the next few weeks and will post what she makes (old carb 830 cfm new setup 950 cfm so hoping for some more HP). I expect more torque in the midrange though just from the initial butt dyno so far. Will be updating this thread and my build thread as the car will stay this way now for quite some time, it is an absolute blast to drive now!!
