Kurgan dyno day So Cal Aug 13

Hey guys, I created this thread so that we have an easier way of openly discussing the dyno day and any issues/ concerns. It also saves me from sending multiple similar messages to everyone.

Please check in and post so we can all be on the same page. Thanks.

Haha, well you are still special.

Nice car, Joe. But isn't it going to be a long drive from Idaho?

And....I'm glad you mentioned it. I talked to Bob today, he hasn't received any deposits for the 13th. If you guys can hit him up asap it would be good. His number is 815 669 7223.

Bob forwarded me his flight confirmation. He's coming out the 12th and leaving Sunday morning. He's locked in!

What's up!!! Yeah I can't wait to get our rides tuned by the man, the myth, the legend, the one they call " The Flyin' Hawaiian "! Hahaha. Big thanks for setting this up Jeremy! .... I'm glad Bob decided to do 6 cars, now my cousin can bring his mod motor down there. He should put around 600 to the wheels. He has an...
8.5:1 forged 5.4
New Trick Flow 2v heads ( ported )
Trick Flow stage 2 cams
Ported Bullit intake
1 5/8 LT's
D-1 Procharger. Trying for 17-19 psi

Yeah I will contact Bob and place my deposit down. Ill have my cousin do the same.

Grover Dill your fox is sick bro. That thing will EASILY see 700+. How much boost are you planning when you get tuned?

Wow, Jason you are gonna be c l o s e!! We're pullin' for you to make it.

Matt, thanks bro! I've been trying over a YEAR for this!! He is THE best.

Another thing I talked to Bob about today is the amount of time we have on the dyno.

We have GroverDill, chinopsu, mghoward, and Vorteched88Gt. Matt's cousin also is 100% up for going. I have two or three others on the fence. So including myself, 6 cars 100% in, with a potential for 8-9 cars. Two of the 100% guys depend on whether their engines are done in time.

The issue with dyno time is that GTR can only stay open from 830-6pm for us. That's 9.5 hrs, not a ton of time for each car.

Bob called Granatelli back and asked what he would charge to rent the dyno ALL day, as in early morning until midnight if need be. This would be beneficial for two reasons. One, we could get more guys to go. Secondly, a lot more time for more thorough tuning of each car. I would hate to be rushed on the dyno, Bob is only coming once.

The cost would be a flat rate of something like $150/car for dyno time. GTR is $95/ hr. So if your car takes 2-3 hrs, there's a pretty good savings there. Granatelli has a Mustang dyno vs Dynojet at GTR.

Granatelli is a little further for me and the San Diego guys, but closer for the Sacramento crew. I'm willing to drive just because we can be there for 14-15 hrs.

Post up your comments, concerns, expletives etc... We need to make a group decision on it and let Bob know.

Thanks!, it is currently running on the 15 psi wastegate spring. I am unsure how much boost I should run, I do have a E-boost2 controller so I can increase it if the powers that be think it will be OK.

As for location, at this point I really dont care I need a tune.

The only downside I see out of using Granatellis is the Mustang Dyno. That might hurt some feelings because the numbers will be lower. Personally I could care less about a Mustang Dyno because I run my car at the track, timeslips and trap speeds are what matter to me. Saving money on the rate, more thorough tune, opportunity for more people to attend are all pluses in my book.

Yeah power numbers will definitely be lower. I would just go to GTR the week after and pay $75 for a couple dynojet pulls and get those numbers for comparison.

I'm good for either. However, because us sacramento guys need to dyno earlier....=)........I would hate to eat up dyno time for others. So obivously a longer day would be beneficial.

Ooooooor...maybe we should lock down the number of cars at 6. This would get us a good spot at GTR.

If we can get the other 2 or 3 to commit or "fold"....then we'll know a lot better where we can go. But as others have said, I don't care about the number, I care about the tune....

I can always take it a local dynojet for a "dyno boner".....

I'm also concerned about GTR business hours!! You run a business to make money i.e. cost vs. benefit. I don't understand why they wouldn't keep the doors open longer if they're benefitting from it all.

My suggestion to Jeremy was to use this Dynoshop down in San Diego. There is no hourly rate. Just a flat fee of $250 divide by however many cars that show up. Plus he'll stay open as long as it takes.

The dyno guy only concern would be if he had to strap the extra cars on the dyno. He said "he doesn't want to be the strapping boy all night long." Anything after 6 or 7 cars he would have to charge $80-100 to strap the remainder down. Plus he uses the dynojet Bob perfers. The dyno guy name is ( Jaime ) is a real cool cat!!

I know it's a far stretch for the Sac-town guys and maybe the LA guys to make such a drive, but I rather have Bob use as much time as it takes to tune each car without having to pay for extra dyno time.

Plus the beach is 20-30 minutes away
and the hotels are cheap if you need to stay the night.

Like I said to Jermey " I down for whatever, just let me know "

Too bad Bob couldn't be here for the whole weekend.

I would be willing to pay a little more for SD location, offer a garage parking spot the night before (and after ) if needed.

I will admit it, I am lazy and would rather pay a lil more for a local tune

edit, I know that dyno and Jamie also and they are both legit.

Don't want to confuse anyone. Jamie's shop is called "Dynomite Tuning". The "Dynoshop" is also a tuning shop in San Diego, but the "Dynoshop" is far too expensive. "Dynomite tuning" is "The home of the cheapest dyno pulls in America" guarranteed. He boldly makes this statement because be keeps his overhead so low he can charge insanely low prices.

Sound like a commercial huh!!!!

Sorry if I confused anyone ....... Including myself

Just got off the phone with Jamie from "Dynomite tuning"
Correction needs to be made on my previous post. It's $250 for 8 hours on the dyno or 4 cars for $250. After the four cars are done it's $100 for each car thereafter.

Example 4 cars = $250, so the $250 is divided by the 1st 4 cars on the dyno
The 5th car will pay $100 for there car only, the 6th car will pay $100 for his car only, the 7th car $100 for his car only etc.....

Jamie said he is willing to be there all night he doesn't car ( keep the shop open )

he also said you can store your car in his shop for free, but he has to see how much room he has 1st.

Now mind you..... I'm only trying to help.

All in all Jeremy is the coordinator, he has put in all the foot work getting this thing done for us. I believe it's ultimately up to him to decide.

I'd be the 5th, 6th guy and pay the $100 just so the guys from up north would be part of the 1st four on the dyno. If that would help out too

Bob is flying in to Ontario airport. Just another issue to consider. That's 2.5 hours from SD.

SD has g r e a t rates and hours. I'm pretty sure Jason and Matt can't do it though. I wish the shop was more centrally located.

I like Jason's idea of capping the max at 6 cars. I'll call GTR and see of I can finagle an earlier start or later end time.

I want to make it a group decision rather than just mine. It has definitely been a lot of work on my part, but you guys are making it happen. If it was just me, Bob wouldn't be out here.

I have been crazy busy at work. I'll call GTR for sure tomorrow.

ask them if we can do at least 12hrs...

like i told you on the phone, JR Granatelli will just let me have the shop as long as i want... we can set the roller weight up to read "dynojet" numbers as well..

I talked to Jamie from Dynomite. He said the shop will be there if and when we need it. No problem.

And for however long you need it.

I will call some other places in Orange county too

I can't do SD. That's just way way to far to add to my trip. I'm sure Matt and his cousin feel the same way as well.

I don't know if Bob wants to taxi it 2.5 hours as well.

I'm down for Granatelli or GTR though.....

This sounds best so far. They are giving you full reign of the shop for however long you want. Flat rate on the dyno time, and you set the dyno up to read dynojet numbers. Sounds like a win-win situation.

But regardless where we do the tuning I will be there. I got this bad boy in the mail the other day....

I figured SD was out of the question for you guys. You're already looking at an 8 hour drive.

Granatelli really is sounding like the best option. 1.5-2 hrs per car just does not seem like enough time to get each car fully done. One or two issues come up and one car could be twice that time.

Is everyone cool with that? I'll have to call GTR and cancel if so. I'd like to give them as much advance notice as possible.

EDIT:

Looking at travel times/ distances, Granatelli may not be best after all.

SD to GTR is about 2 hrs. SD to Granatelli is 4 hrs. That doubles drive time for SD guys and adds two hrs to mine and Bob's. I didn't realize how much farther it was.

Sacramento to Granatelli is 6.75 hrs.Sacramento to GTR is 7.15 hrs. So GTR doesn't add much time for Sac guys.

I'm calling GTR about longer hours. Standby.

In order for GTR to be a success, they HAVE to stay open longer than 6pm. At least until 8pm...

I agree. Just called, busy line. I'll call back in a few.

Congrats on the BS3!! That's the stand-alone I want when I go YSi. They're not cheap tho.

I got a few parts yesterday. I'm e85 ready-to-roll now. Magnafuel protuner 750 and 80's that I ordered from Bob. Also bought a new Fuelab regulator as my ancient Paxton is questionable. Waiting for UPS to bring a couple fittings and I'll be installing this stuff today.

See if GTR can open the door really early. I don't know how long it takes to setup, but it'll be good to get there early when it's still cool outside.

I know I'll be there when the doors open.

To all my NorCal buds!! Damn Ca for being so big! Haha. We should all be just around the corner from each other.

Are all you driving or trailering your cars down to GTR? I'm driving mines untuned up there. Got to drive conservativly.

I am driving mine, it has a tune in it already so I should be ok. I am only adding a larger exhaust housing and wont be beating on it on the way so I expect it to be fine.

Yeah fellas I'm towing mine down there. I don't want rock chips and #### in my paint. My cousin will be towing as well. I think Jason is driving though. I've towed my fox down to the Knotts show the last 3 years as well.

That pump looks like a nice piece Jeremy. Yeah Bob said the BS3 is the way to roll with my setup and E-85.

I've been calling So Cal shops listed on Dynojet's site for the last hour. They are either disconnected numbers or the shop wants way too much money and is not open past 12 on Saturday.

I did find one shop, HK Motorsports Dyno in Van Nuys, that seems like they may be a good choice. Didn't answer when I called, but most shops don't as they're one or two-man deals.

Is your car blue? With the front bumper molding deleted or something along that line.

Do you work on Naval Base S.D.? Thought I saw this car there on Base.

Yeah, I'm 90% sure I'll be driving. Mostly because that will more than likely be part of my break in for the motor too.

I already have a Kurgan tune on the car but for 60's and less fuel. Ordering everything on Monday to switch to E85....

Also, I have full DVD and Sat Nav...I really enjoy driving my car

Yup my car is painted a custom blue. I molded a Saleen lower valance to a GT upper bumper and shaved the moldings. Its also a full one piece wrap around bumper like the Cobra rear is. Took a lot of work LOL.
