well, i was hoping for 6's... but i didnt expect to get what i got! 6.62 @ 104. i got a 6.55 also, but i ended up creeping thru the lights while trying to get up on the converter, once i was out of the beams (and the clock started) i sat there like an idiot for a second... if i had just left, i might have squeezed a 6.4? out of it... oh well all things considered it was a good nite!

thanks guys, it amazing what happens when you combine 10# and a 100 shot of nitrous! and yes, the trans is proving to be the best money ive spend on the car! ill link some videos soon, you can hear the slicks screech when it hits third!

as the nite wore on and the air cooled down the times started to go away cause it was starting to get lean. heres a video of a slower time, i think it was a 6.8something...
congrats! nice launch , what was the 60 ft. time? who built the tranny?
my 6.62 pass was a 1.48 60'... your gonna laugh about the tranny... ive got a grand total of $450 in the trans, its a junkyard 4R70W from a 2002 v-6 mustang that i put a transgo AODE-3 MVB kit in, and i changed the OD band out for a carbon fiber one... THATS IT!
this winter i think im gonna get a dirtydog 3500-4000 converter.

My t5 took a crap auto swaps seemed expensive but after reading this you got me thinking. What years v-6 can you get this trans out of. Is there any issues putting it in a fox body?

the best 4R to use were in cars 98-02. pre 98 cars didnt have the mech diode, and cars after 02 didnt have the gear cut into the output shaft for the speedo gear... you can use a later than 02 trans, but if you want to have a speedo you have to swap the output shaft. MUST be a 3.8 v-6 car, the 4.0's have a different bellhousing. the 4R is bigger than the AOD and a little longer. i have ALOT of pics/info posted on my flickr page, youll have to scroll down and go back some pages but you can get started here... Flickr: boostdcoupe's Photostream
for the record i got my trans from a junkyard for $250.00 and the transgo kit was around $200.00.

LOL, yeah... its a shame we dont have a 1/4 track close to here, OD or LU could get a workout too!
there is alot of debate about what the 4R can hold, some people say the "70" part of 4R70W indicates it can hold 700 ft. lb. of torque, i dont know. this was really a test for me, i wanted to see just how fast i could go with a junkyard trans... if this gets me in the 5's, i will NEVER build another trans. when one breaks, ill just get another and put my VB in it. supposedly the first weak link to show itself will be the stub shaft.

Is the stub shaft the one you can replace with a Chrysler 300M piece?
i dont know about that, but there are some replacements out there, one is waranteed for life, but the drum it splines into would have to upgraded next IIRC... no biggie, i have an extra stocker for a spare for now.

Lol. I just googled it. Says, "300M" hardened steel. Maybe that's just the terminology for the material. I saw all these sites in the past stating they use a 300M stub shaft and just assumed it was a stronger shaft from a different trans.

300M is a low alloy, vacuum melted, steel of very high strength. Essentially it is a modified AISI 4340 steel with silicon, vanadium and slightly more carbon and molybdenum. 300M has a very good combination of strength at 1930–2100 MPa (280-305 ksi), toughness, fatigue strength and good ductility. It is a through hardening alloy.
300M Alloy Industry Standard
300M alloy complies with the AMS 6419 industry standard and is also known as UNS K44220.
Applications of the 300M Alloy
The 300M alloy is use for a wide range of applications including:
aircraft landing gear
high strength bolts
airframe parts
driveshafts
Heat Treatment of 300M Alloy
300M must be normalized at 927°C (1700°F) before hardening. After the normalizing treatment, the alloy is hardened by heating to 871°C (1600°F) and oil quenching. After hardening the material is double tempered for 2 hours at 302°C (575°F) and 2 hours at 302°C (575°F) air cool.
I know you used the manual valve body option but how would the u.s. shift (old baudmand) controller work? I would like to have the full auto option if my wife wanted to drive my car and not have to mess with lock up and overdrive switches. I will be making some phone calls to local junk yards in the morning. I did notice ebay had a few rebuilt units for $599 I wonder if it would be worth it to get one rebuilt first just for insurance.

having the baumannator would be cool, i couldnt afford it. auto would be nice, but on my budget the MVB kit was my best option. i was willing to take a chance on the used trans i bought, but i take some chances i would suggest for everybody... like boost and juice!

thanks for the props guys, but i thought my launch was horrendous! the juice is forcing the converter to flash and stall getting me some decent short times, but i REALLY need to transfer some weight, this thing is barely lifting the drivers tire... i need some drag shocks in the rear a tubular k member and coil overs so i can start to move some weight to the rear tires. right now my suspension consists of MM tubular lowers, dbl adjustable uppers, stock GT coils, AZ shocks and the front is all stock except some kind of lowering coil.
ive got a whole laundry list of things i need... i could spend $7000 in about 10 minutes right now!

so you are running the stock v6 converter? whats it flash to?
NO! i had heared nitemares of v-6 converters blowing at rpms above 5500, but some people have done it w/o trouble, its a crapshoot. my converter was built by TCS of canada for lentech, and its not matched to my combo... the converter is actually the problem that made me think about nitrous, trying to make it flash... then i figured if i went to the trouble to put nitrous on the car, im NOT gonna just flash the converter and let out of the juice, the rest is history.

So what does it stall to? What rear gears do you have in the car?
ive got 3.55's, at 1500 rpms the converter is overpowering the brakes and pushing me thru the lights. i can drive the car without touching the gas pedal, just pullit in first, let off the brake and it pulls out, click second and third... no throttle! its not the converter's fault, its a VERY good quality piece with antiballon plates and all the bells and whistles, i think it was either built for nitrous, brake, or a big inch/hi torque motor. i bought it used here on corral.

So what choices do we have fo shifters? I see you used a hammer. Does it fit well? What about a shifter cable where did you get yours? I have a ton of dumb questions. I just got my car not to long ago. It a 306 so how do I tell what flywheel to get? I don't know how engine was balanced.

actually i put the hammer in the car and i didnt like the way it shifted (ive always had detent shifters, dont like ratchets), so i put the stock AOD shifter back in the car and i LOVE IT! (sleeper look) in my flickr photostream there are pics of what i trimmed on the 4R to make the stock AOD shifter cable and cable bracket bolt right on (its idiot proof!). unless your car has some exotic setup its probably 50oz inbalance, best way to tell is to check the flywheel when you take it out. then if it is 50oz, just get a flexplate for an AOD, done. the only dumb question is the one you DONT ask.
